My PET scan results came back good. I have been on Ibrance 100mg and Letrozole for 5 years. I was stage 4 at initial diagnosis. I still have the tumor and it appears to have progressed a little in 6 months (4.9-5.3) my oncologist wants to look at me having surgery, I have one leison on my achetableum. Has anyone had surgery this late into diagnosis?Thank you

Yes! I had a mastectomy 1 year into MBC diagnosis. I have three small bone leisons but I had large tumor in my breast, which drs thought would never shrink completely. No lymph nodes taken in surgery.

Fairly easy recovery and minor side effects— I have very slight lymphedema in that arm.

Let me know if you have any questions! Best wishes! Cindi

I hope the surgery is easy for you.. I went home late the same day…. I had a drain for 10 days… not as bad as I thought it would be!

I think the only issue will be is that I’m a type 1 diabetic, my A1C have been great so my oncologist doesn’t seem concerned.

They will monitor your blood glucose throughout the surgery.

I have a rare blood glucose issue. Mine drops suddenly. So the surgeons have always monitored me. Not the same as your condition but similar outcomes... serious hypos and sometimes seizures.

Ive been fine during surgery. I'm sure you will be too. Just make sure they are aware and promise to monitor you during and after surgery.

All the best x

It is a new and promising approach to do surgery and remove tumors if the metastatic disease is limited, fewer than 5 lesions, even late in the course of treatment. It is thought that removal prevents the tumor from throwing off cells and spreading further. I wish my oncologist would do that, since I have just one suspicious spot. Look up oligometastatic disease.

Thank you I had heard something similar regarding removal of the tumor with less than 5 Mets. I am actually very excited about this!!
