Ok, I'm a little confused about soy products. I don't eat soy but my onc did say tofu and natural soy was ok, but no supplements with soy. Also, reading about how much time we are all given......5, 10 years, I just checked and I can't find an expiration date stamped anywhere on me. I believe God is the only one that knows that date. Well what I wanted to ask is have any of you gotten really sick after a Zometa infusion? I did ok after the first two but I had my third one 10 days ago and have been sick with chills, fever and awful body ache for the last 6 days. Could it be I wasn't hydrate enough? Tried to ask my onc but he took a long weekend. Thanks for any advice you have.

Soya products are so controversial when it comes to the possible link with breast cancer. On the one hand, there is a school of thought that says it can fuel oestrogen receptor positive breast cancer (which is what I have) but then if you look at Japanese women, who tend to eat higher levels of soya products than women in the West, they appear to have lower rates of breast cancer. I asked my oncologist about the possible link about two years ago, and she said there is no increased risk. But what I have done is researched it some more. So I tend to try to avoid or restrict soya in its processed form (soya flour, soya milk, soya protein, soya lecithin etc) and try to stick with whole soya products if I can. It is hard to cut it out completely, as it is in chocolate (unless you buy raw cacao powder, dairy free, soya free chocolate etc), bread, vegetarian and vegan meat alternatives, and so much more. Soya is also added to some supplements, which is something to be aware of.
As for an expiration date, I don't have one stamped on me either, and you won't find one! I don't look for one, nor do I ask for a date, as I am not planning on dying anytime soon from this disease.
I don't feel ill after zometa infusions, but I did feel achy afterwards on one occasion. I would suggest you make sure you are well hydrated on the day of your infusions, and afterwards too. It can really help. Six days seems like a long time to have such symptoms though. I don't want to alarm you, but if you are still feeling like this tomorrow I would seek medical advice. Hopefully it is nothing, but there may be something else the matter with you that needs to be investigated.
Thank you Sophie. I just found a forum on Zometa and some good advice. They said taking Tylenol & a Claritin prior to and the day after infusion really helps. Of course lots of water also. One lady said she was sick for 14 days. Thankfully I am feeling a little better. I have a PET/CT scan on Wed so I have to get better.
You are so right...NONE of us are stamped with expiration dates! I feel the same way. I pay no attention to the doctor's/ medical professionals' estimates of how long we/I have. They don't know. Despite my health struggles with this disease, I am planning my life.
I got sick (chills, sweats, aches, etc.) after the first Zometa infusion only. Please discuss with your Oncologist. That definitely sounds out of the ordinary (I am not a doctor) to me.
