Something to Consider

Praying as we weather this storm. My heart is heavy for those who are hurting and anxious and are finding this time to be unbearable. I copied and pasted the words below from a friend which I think are good to keep in mind as we all navigate this time together. ❤️

WE ARE NOT IN THE SAME BOAT ...

I heard that we are in the same boat. But it's not like that. We are in the same STORM, but not in the same boat.

Your ship can be shipwrecked and mine might not be. Or vice versa. For some, quarantine is optimal: moment of reflection, of re-connection. Easy, in flip flops, with an iced tea.

For others, this is a desperate crisis. For others it is facing loneliness. For some, a peace, rest time, vacation.

Yet for others, Torture: How am I going to pay my bills?

Some were concerned about a brand of chocolate for Easter.

Others were concerned about the bread for the weekend, or if the noodles would last for a few more days.

Some were in their "home office" .

Others are looking through trash to survive.

Some want to go back to work because they are running out of money.

Others want to kill those who break the quarantine.

Some need to break the quarantine to stand in line at the banks and stores. Others to escape.

Others criticize the government for the lines.

Some have experienced the near death of the virus, some have already lost someone from it, some are not sure their loved ones are going to make it, and some don't even believe this is a big deal.

Some of us who are well now may end up experiencing it, and some believe they are infallible and will be blown away if or when this hits someone they know.

Some have faith in God and expect miracles during this 2020.

Others say the worse is yet to come.

So, friends, we are not in the same boat.

We are going through a time when our perceptions and needs are completely different.

And each one will emerge, in his own way, from that storm.

Some with a tan from their pool. Others with scars on the soul (for invisible reasons).

It is very important to see beyond what is seen at first glance. Not just looking, more than looking, seeing.

Do not judge the good life of the other, do not condemn the bad life of the other. Don't be a judge. Let us not judge the one who lacks, as well as the one who exceeds him.

We are on different ships looking to survive. Let everyone navigate their route with respect, empathy and responsibility.

You worded so well but I’ve been thinking. We are not in this together as our media says. Situations are so different. While my situation is just being bored, others are just trying to make it until tomorrow. You said it so well... we’re in the same storm but not in the same boat.

Very thought provoking

There was a concert on TV last night to thank the NHS with people like Lady Gaga the Stones Elton John etc etc and they kept going on about all of us being in this together...and I did think ‘No we’re not’...it’s different for everyone

I don’t go to shops and keep my distance from people but I’m not isolating either as I ride out in my horse...some may criticise me for that but it’s how I want to be...I’m not putting anyone else in danger

Some people are so terrified to go out yet I’ve seen groups of people disregarding the advice e.g my next door neighbour had people round last night ( I was spying from upstairs window) they were having a rowdy party which I thought was out of order

Let’s hope for a vaccine soon

Barb, I agree with you re: continuing to get out to ride sweet Bugsy. I think that we, under the circumstances, should be given a "pass" to enjoy life, as long as we don't put others in harm's way.

Enjoy, and please give a carrot from me! :)

Hi Barb,

I agree with you. We do not all share the same experience during this lockdown. Some people really struggle with their mental health, others enjoy being able to work from home, teach their children or get some jobs done around the house and garden. If you live in a tiny flat with a family it must be a struggle.

I don’t think it’s wrong of you to ride Bugsy. He still needs his exercise and I’m sure he loves to see you. I heard yesterday that Colchester zoo is struggling to stay afloat since the lockdown began. But a group of people are raising money to help support it.

Animals should not be neglected. I am still working, but like you I am keeping my distance from people and taking precautions. Although I have to say I have never seen so many joggers, whole families out cycling and people in the parks, woods and nature reserves. I’ve started playing a new game. It’s called “dodge the human!” 😂😂😂
