New York getting worse

Mayor on TV. Now over 21,600 people in NY infected and thus far we have over 281 deaths. Social isolation, we are going to have to do this for quite some time. I want to go back to the days when cancer was my only concern. I am NOT scared of the cancer anymore. I am scared of the virus.

I have to go out and talk a walk tomorrow. Brooklyn is NOT obviously a rural area. But we have a walking and bike pathway outside where I live and I just have to get it. Its been 12 days inside already.

Hard to get food for me. So a friend that lives in Staten Island will be picking up groceries for me and driving them to Brooklyn and I will meet her downstairs. Thank God for friends. You see the ones that stand up and deliver when you need them to.

You really find out who your real friends are when you need them, I am too more scared of the virus than the cancer. When I was diagnosed with cancer some friends disappeared and others who had only just met have gone out of the way to help me. Shopping is hard for us and no delivery slots available so my partner is going shopping and our neighbour said she will pick him up.

Same exact thing with me. I guess ( and I would have thought the same before I got it) that they thought stage iv meant I had six months to live. So now that I am still alive (and look healthy bc I have my hair), many have disappeared. I got so many emails from friends that said "I got your back". And the I lost it one day when another friend said same thing in an email and I said What does that mean exactly? I got your back. People know I live alone and I should not have to ask for help. I got your back means they would realize they should offer bc I would never ask.

On the other hand, I realize, unlike me, not married with friends, my friends have their own families, grandchildren and elderly parents they are dealing with so that has to be their first priority.

I think people think hey she is still here two years later. I now just say I have mbc so I dont get all those looks when people ask.

But the people I never expected to step up did and the ones I expected to step up, slowly disappeared. It opens your eyes a bit.

Fair weather friends are not true friends. ☹️

I just watched a video on Twitter that a doctor in NY made. It was posted by the NY Times. It was scary how short on ventilators they are and she showed a refrigerator truck they are storing bodies in. Made me cry and yet your president is talking about cutting back on the isolation. People need to wake up and see how many are dying and how under reported the cases are.

I’m glad your friend is bringing you groceries. My son and daughter-in-law delivered to us and our neighbour yesterday. They won’t allow my husband to leave the house either so that he doesn’t bring it home to me. Keep safe.

Over 100 people died at ONE hospital yesterday at Elmhurst Hospital. Guess where it is located. In an location where the poor live. They did not have enough ventilators so people who needed them died bc they did not have enough equipment. It is because it was a poor area. Now they are taking the remaining patients out of there.

That is unacceptable. The hospitals in better areas are still short (they have people sharing ventilators) but now we are expecting more equipment.

It’s so scary.

Our Governor was begging Trump to access the military or whatever so that we could have gotten this equipment like three weeks ago. We don't even have enough beds for the influx of sick people they expect. It will be in waves and we don't have enough space. They are using buildings that are not meant to be hospitals but they cant leave these people in the streets.

Trump needs to step up and take this serious

I agree. Our government waited almost two months to begin to even try to do anything. I think this is criminal. Not sure if I'm more angry or scared, scared not so much for myself (I feel relatively safe where I am? And am 10 days into isolation)...but of course I'm not immune...) but for so many other people in different circumstances.

Aamkearns, other NYC members, NOLA members, future hotspot members....I am hoping for the best for all.

Thank goodness for friends in times of need. We are seeing so many acts of caring and kindness in the world these days. My heart breaks for so many especially when you see how hard hit many areas such as NYC, Italy and Spain have been affected. If you can safely get out for a walk and fresh air I am sure you will feel refreshed. I am sad to say I think we will be in social isolation for many days and weeks to come. I wish you well and we are thinking of you and your beautiful city. I pray that you get the resources and equipment that your hospitals desperately need. Iam in Ontario and we are just starting to see our numbers climb each day. Very scary times. Sending a virtual hug to you and city. Take care and stay healthy and strong. 🤗

It’s bad in Australia too. But I think USA surpassed anything today. I feel for all of you over there with your political climate, but our prime minister is just as bad. It’s only the economy and his financial security that he really cares about when it come down to it.

I am very scared too. I’ve been too coughs up in watching the news to even come here, but also I did watch the radical remission series that someone put up here. That was fabulous.

Love and healing hugs (or elbow bumps) to all. ❤️

Do any of the health care/cancer/bc/mbc organizaations in NYC have programs for getting groceries to people with major health problems? I live out in a rural low population area where the first person in our county to be diagnosed with the covar19 was just diagnosed yesterday, so my situation is very different than city dwellers are having. And my husband has just left for the grocery store. But he is going to be 68 tomorrow and he has his own set of health issues, so I suspect we both would be considered high risk for this nasty virus. Our cell phones get no recption at home and in alot of dead spots around here. Neither of us knows how to use our phones or computers to see people we want to talk to, and frankly, we've been good with that! lol About two weeks ago, maybe 3, I woke up with a very sore throat and a temp of about 99.6, and called around to find out where I could get tested. I called the local hospital, health dept and my primary care doctor. I was able to speak with two nurses and my pcp and none of them knew what to do, when they would know, or what to tell me! Yikes! We live in the middle of ten acres and if we see neighbors, it's no big deal to talk to them many feet apart! I hope this will end up being a wake up call to the leaders of every government, about being prepared for health crises, and a reminder that we are all much more alike than different and have to learn to work together! The welfare of all is much more important than money!
