Just read that Shannen Doherty (the TV star from 90210) who had stage iii breast cancer and documented her whole battle with chemo, etc. She has been clear for three years and just is announcing to the public that it has come back and she is now stage iv.
"Doherty had secretly been diagnosed with stage IV when Perry died of a stroke in February last year.
'Why wasn't it me? It was so weird for me to be diagnosed and then somebody who was seemingly healthy to go first. It was really shocking and the least I could do to honor him was to do that show. I still haven't done enough in my opinion,' she said.
She added that she wanted to prove that people who had been diagnosed with Stage IV cancer 'still have some living to do'. "
Makes me wonder. Shannen is younger, had her breast removed, the chemo and getting sick on the "red devil" and the mastectomy and radiation and then was clear for three years. Stage iv does not discriminate. But it was like said, here she was diagnosed with stage iv and her co-actor, Luke Perry, who was healthy suddenly died.
I hope she finds a support group like ours that will accept her as just another MBC patient and not expect anything different of her than we all expect of ourselves...that we are human and will have ups and downs. Elaine
