Good morning! I am in need of advice of what take to sleep. I have tried Advil PM and 10 mg of Ambien. Both have me up at midnight. I’m healing from radiation which makes it challenging. Any advice is greatly appreciated! 💕 Colleen

Hi Colleen,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble sleeping. I think your best bet would be to contact your oncologist or oncology nurses to find out if they can give you some advice on what to do, and perhaps write you a prescription for something to help you sleep. You need to keep your strength up following radiotherapy, and lack of sleep won't help.

I hope things start to improve for you soon,

Hello Colleen. I have prescription for medical cannabis and find a low dose of THC helps me sleep. I take 5mg about an hour before bed and it helps me get to sleep but also stay asleep. Melatonin also helps getting to sleep but don’t find it helps staying asleep. Wishing you all the best with this as know how important sleep is for your healing!

I find that 5 mg of melatonin extended release taken when I first get in bed and then 6.25 mg of extended release Ambien when I'm ready to go to sleep usually works pretty well. I read somewhere that the lower doses of melatonin often work better for sleep issues.

Several years ago when I first started on this journey, my oncologist prescribed Lorazepam ( brand name is Ativan) 1mg.

1/2 pill would get rid of my queasiness and allow me to eat. I also found that if I took 1/2 pill about an hour b4 bedtime it would help me fall and stay asleep.

I still use it as a sleep aid once or twice a week.

Best wishes.

You've got some good recommendations and I'll add Bendryl. 25mg. usually helps me get sleepy. Hope you're sawing logs soon!

I also take Trazodone, which is a mild sleep aid.

Not being able to sleep is horrible! Best of luck!

Try CBD tincture. Barely any THC. Works for me. Half a dropper under the tongue before bed

Zoplicone is a prescription sleep aid that keeps you asleep. I used to take it but now if I do I sleep 24 hours straight. Melatonin, CBD oil, lavender essential oils or Zofran if you are nauseous as it helps with that and makes you tired.
