Dizzy and weak today

Barbteeth profile image
46 Replies

I decided to ride my horse this morning and because I’m fed up of being in pain I decided to take an extra 5 mg Shortec (Oxycodone)..I’m taking zomorph slow release as well on a regular basis

The ride was lovely but when I got off I felt weak and wobbly...sat down for a bit then fed Bugsy...sat down again then really struggled to put his rugs on etc and had to ask someone to sort him and take him to the field

Anyway I managed to drive home and sat down...took my blood pressure and it was 84/46 which is really low

I won’t do that again...take too much painkilling meds...quite scary...I’ll just wait till it all wears off...just shows how powerful these drugs are

Thought I’d share this...just a warning to everyone...can’t believe how stupid I was!!!

Glad you are okay. Pain can make one too desperate things to make it stop but if you are already on a slow-acting pain med, you need to be careful especially if you are driving also. Live and learn. Sorry that the first med is not enough to stop the pain. Do you think your body may be building up a tolerance to the meds which does happen?

The cancer center I go to has a no opiod policy. I think one would have to be close to death to even get anything stronger than a percocet 5 mg. They have a pain management clinic but they try all alternative methods, no opiates at all.

Thank God I am not in pain. I could not tolerate that. I feel for you.

You aren't stupid by any means. You just don't want to be in pain. Hope you feel better. It takes awhile to wear off. Rest up.

So glad you enjoyed your bike ride...getting out in the fresh air is so good for the spirit...it was a lovely autumn sunny day here and I love the sound of horses hooves on crunchy leaves (I’m getting poetic here!)

I’ll just be careful with the pills now I’m on zomorph..maybe just try paracetamol and ibuprofen

All the best to you lovely Sandra

Wowzers that is a low bp. At least you know how much you can take now. Always a learning curve when your tablets have been changed. At least you managed to rest and didn’t carry on regardless. Glad you got out today. I think it’s nice again tomorrow.

Take care now Barb xx

Hi Barb,

You are not stupid! Please don't beat yourself up. At least now you know what you should and shouldn't be taking. I'm glad you were able to get home safely. Please take it easy and have a restful, relaxing evening.

I'm sitting here sipping my matcha green tea (I started drinking it yesterday) and waiting for my chestnuts to finish roasting. I picked a batch this afternoon during one of my dog walks and again this evening when I walked over to the woods with my dad and brother.

Take care my friend,

Sophie x

Barbteeth in reply to

Oh I adore chestnuts..apparently you can cook in the microwave but have to remember to prick the skins or they explode...sort of thin I’d do!!!

Yes I learned my lesson today with the painkillers

Barb xx

in reply toBarbteeth

Do you have any chestnut trees nearby, Barb? I never buy what I can forage for. I always shell them and cut them in half in case there are any worms lurking inside. Then I cook them at Gas Mark 5 for about 15-18 minutes, turning once halfway through (remember to spray the pan so they don't stick). You can cook chestnuts in the microwave, but I have been reheating things the old-fashioned way lately and using my oven more. I have been weaning myself off my microwave.

I hope you are feeling better,

Sophie x

love it when I find something totally new to try! not much left at my age ha ha. last week I had an impossible whopper from burger king, the plant-based patty and it was really good! could not taste the difference really and I'm a big beef eater. the texture was good too; it seemed to fill me up all day long which is a very big thing to me because my appetite is HUGE. thanks again! :) God bless and heal us all in Jesus name, amen!

in reply toGodbeforme

Chestnuts are delicious, especially straight out of the oven! I'm not normally one to visit fast food restaurants, but the plant-based whopper you mentioned sounds really good! I'll have to see if we have something similar at Burger King restaurants here in the UK.

Burger King do a veggie burger but not tried one...not a fast food fan either

Godbeforme profile image
Godbeforme in reply to

rumor has it that they are cooked on the same grill as the meat, flame-broiled, probably why they taste so good. no problem for me as I am not vegan.

in reply toGodbeforme

That wouldn't be fair to people who are vegan if that's true. It's like the time a friend from California was living in Mexico and she mentioned she was vegetarian, but was assured the food was vegetarian. But it was cooked in lard! No offence to people who like Mexican food, but I found the smell of food cooking in lard pretty awful to stomach. That's why I'm not a big fan of that cuisine.

Godbeforme profile image
Godbeforme in reply to

yes, they are open about their cooking methods and don't try to hide it. vegetarian I think is healthy, I've read vegan not so much. people need to realize that just like someone on a diet who has a cheat day, vegans are not going to die if they come in contact with meat; I wish we could get back to all things in moderation and common sense but alas those days are long gone I am afraid.

in reply toGodbeforme

Provided they are open with customers about their cooking methods then that's fine. The customer can then make an informed choice. It's when people are deceived into eating something which they think is suitable according to their needs but isn't that bothers me. I was almost tricked into eating fish at a potluck once even though I made it clear I don't eat fish. I was assured that what I put on my plate wasn't fish, but my husband tried it and told me it was fish. I wasn't happy!

Godbeforme profile image
Godbeforme in reply to

true! deception is never a good thing. my mum-in-law who is now deceased would NEVER eat chicken because when she was a girl they told her the chicken she was so fond of was being served for dinner that day. they thought it was funny, she got so sick she never ate anything in the bird family again. It wasn't her pet ... still ... deception ....

in reply toGodbeforme

That's really cruel! The memory of that deception sounds like it had a lasting impact on your mother-in-law. How could anyone think that was funny?

Godbeforme profile image
Godbeforme in reply to

I guess because they didn't actually do it and didn't realize she cared so much for the pet chicken and that it would have that devastating affect because they were a loving family otherwise, as far as I know. She lived to be 83 and never ate a piece of chicken or turkey again in her life.

in reply toGodbeforme

Yes, I suppose you're right. I just don't get cruel humour.

my blood pressure medicine has done that to me before and I would have to drink lots of caffeine and do jumping jacks to keep my heart from flip flopping. glad you had a lovely ride and are okay! God bless you and heal us all in Jesus name, amen!

I did not know that you could drink caffeine to raise blood pressure. I have adrenal insufficiency and my blood pressure tends to run low, maybe more coffee will help.

When I was in the hospital they had me on Dilaudid for pain and same thing. Low pressure. Sent me home with Oxycodone and I couldn’t tolerate it for more than a day. Just took ibuprofen and I swear it worked better for the pain without that weird feeling. Sorry you’re in so much pain though. That sucks! :(

Glad you made it home safely and your BP is better again. We have also had some beautiful fall days here as well. The trees and all the amazing fall colours just light up in the sunshine. It must have been a beautiful horseback ride, nice that you got that in before fading. Take care and I hope you are able to manage your pain and be comfortable. 🤗

Hope you are feeling better Barb! Xo

You love riding and being outdoors as do I with my bicycle. It is our own therapy. I completely understand why you needed to ride Bugsy. I hope you can ride again soon when you’re up for it.

Sandra - glad you enjoyed your ride. I rode on Monday and it was a glorious October day. I enjoyed riding without overheating like in August! Honestly when it’s too hot, even having the assistance of the e bike doesn’t help. It’s a short window here in MA until it becomes too chilly for me to ride but this time of the year is so refreshing to ride. Isn’t it wonderful how much joy the outdoors can give us?

Barb you’re not stupid you just wanted to do something you enjoyed. Maybe the pain meds made you feel dizzy but I sure hoped you enjoyed your ride.

Hope you're feeling better today. I would love to go riding but my ribs wouldn't like it. I watch this show called Heartland, its a Canadian show. Do you get it in UK? It's about this horse ranch. It's kinda cheesy sometimes but just good family fun.

Take Care

Hi Robin

Not seen this program but sure would love it if it features horses!!

I’m a bit better today...told my oncologist what happened yesterday and she didn’t seem fussed!!...said I hadn’t taken a big dose of meds it was because I wasn’t used to them 🤷‍♀️

Definitely check out that show Heartland if you can. Amy does wonders with the horses and as a horse lover you will learn a lot about animal behavior.

Wolverine19 profile image
Wolverine19 in reply toLovemylakie

Heartland is one of my favorite shows. My favorite character is Jack because he has attitude but also he's a pussycat at heart. I don't like Lou's character. My favorite part of the show overall is the behavior of the horses and the way Amy finds solutions to help them. I love animal behavior and it just goes to show how much the animals are so much like us, if people would just realize that.

Yes thanks...won’t do that again though apparently that’s not a massive dose but I’m not used to it

I’m going to have some palliative radiation to see if helps with pain...I had to request this though...wasn’t offered!!

Barb xx

You have to be so careful with pain meds. I take hydromorphone slow release and have quick release for break through pain. It’s hard when you are hurting not to two extra instead of one. Maybe no extras while horseback riding 😉
