Update on stomach mets

Hi everyone, had my scan yesterday and also saw my dedicated nurse. As I have not been able to eat properly, I have been taken off the Ibrance and been given a mild steroid liquid , to be taken for seven days incase I have inflammation which could be causing my swallowing difficulties. I've also liquid anti sickness and ensure juice which is like strawberry water. Easy to go down. They might change my medication once they have looked at the scan results, incase they have started growing again. I know none of you have stomach mets, but thanks for your interest. Will keep you updated. Take care all of you. Jenny xx

I hope these juices will help and give you the nutrients you need for now. Once they change your medication, can you start juicing yourself with fresh ingredients, or did the docs advise against any fresh fruits etc? Let us know when you get the scan results. Feel better soon to start your new medication🙏

Hugs,

Anja

Thanks Anya, yes hopefully the juices will supply me with all I need. Loads of vitamin and things in them, but they are very sweet. I will persevere with them. Will give an update when scan results come through. Hugs back,. Jenny x

Hi Jenny,

I also have peritoneal mets (to abdomen) and the MBC (lobular) presented with gastrointestinal symptoms (bloating, feeling full quickly, vomiting, and weight loss). So I empathize with you. It sounds like you've got some good strategies and support, so that's awesome. I've been on Letrozole/Ibrance for 24 cycles now (almost 2 years) and am blessed to be tolerating it quite well. I know that's not the case for everyone. My symptoms improved after the surgeon was able to "unstick" some of my small bowel during the exploratory laparoscopy they did when they discovered the metastatic disease in my abdomen. The small bowel (intestine) had apparently got stuck onto itself. My gastrointestinal symptoms improved after that and the start of the meds. I've regained all the weight I lost (okay, not so happy about that part) but my diet is back to normal. Praying that you see improvements with the steroids.

Thanks Tami, I have been absolutely fine for the last year on letrozole/Ibrance no side effects and eating small meals. This problem has occured suddenly, but as you say I have a very good backup team and I am their only stomach met case. You know they say it is rare to get it in the stomach and it seems only those that have lobular cancer get it. Just out luck. Will let you know if anything turns up on my scan.

Best wishes to you. Jenny x

I was informed that my last scan found mets in my stomach lining.I already had my BC metastisized to bones and liver for four years but had remained stable with meds until now.I had been noticing queasiness and fullness for a few weeks but the scan showed me why😞

My oncologist had put in a request for IV chemo to my insurance but then he transferred out of Moffitt and a new oncologist has decided to retest my original tissue sample before deciding what treatment should be next. She started Fulvestrant injections last week.

While on other meds the latest being Verzenio and Tamoxifin I felt fine( except for hair thinning) .Now off the Verzenio/Tamoxifen and just having the Fulvestrant injections I feel terrible every day. Just so sick of being sick😩

I have MBC in my stomach and rectum. They performed a gastrojujunostomy when my pylorus closed down from cancer last August. This is where they resectioned my stomach. I was hospitalized for three weeks. I had the surgery on August 21st, which I now consider my second birthday.

I also had Mets in my ribs and other bones. I was on Ibrance and Foslodex, but they changed me to letrozole. This is working out better.

My stomach is in control of my body. I do not eat beef and very little chicken. I stick to cooked vegetables, cheese, eggs. Small meals. Sourdough bread, Gouda cheese.

I take senna and colace as needed to work out the dosage. I found a great gastroenterologist who works with my oncologist. I also get PET scans every 3-4 months.

Let me know how I can help you if needed. It’s a long road.

Oh yes— get a heating pad. On one right now. Sending healing wishes to all. Reenie

Hi Reenie, sorry you have had such a tough time. Not nice when in the stomach and effects the eating. Sounds as if your a strong positive person and just get on with it. I hope you are still able to enjoy a social life. I used to really enjoy going out for a meal, but it has effected that at the moment. Wishing you all the best. Jenny x
