My brother first told me of this phenomenon after he was in a bad wreck and had to take pain medication. I looked this up to understand WHY! God bless!

Pain pills can cause pain to increase!
I think this is all true for patients that have injuries and get hooked on opioids. I was worried that I would get hooked too, but my oncologist says that bone pain due to cancer lesions, the kind many of us have, is real pain. He says if, and that is a big if, the pain lessens, then it’s his job to slowly decrease my dosage until I’m off. I’ve been on the same dosage of opioids for a year. It still works so I’m not needing more, but I seem to be able, because of the pain control, to slowly increase my endurance level and do more things. I would be worried about someone who was in a car accident who was still on opioids a year later, but not cancer patients.
My point was the actual pills can cause pain in some people. I know I was hurting more when I took hydrocodone, weird as it sounds, now I hardly ever hurt. I had broken my femur above the knee in February. I am stage 4 mbc, I haven't the slightest worry about getting hooked on pain pills, only living as comfortably as possible with this disease.
Totally true. After double knee replacement, I was on one of the oxy drugs and when I tried to cut down, the pain increased. Often it was all over pain, not just the knees. I quit cold turkey. I had my husband take them back to the pharmacist.
