Today is day 9 on Afinitor and Aromasin. I had previously been on Ibrance and it stopped working. Other than a few mouth sores, nausea, and some serious fatigue, the Afinitor seemed to be working. I was especially worried about my blood sugar since high blood sugar is listed as a possible side effect and I am diabetic. My blood sugar was fine...until last night. I took it in the middle of the night and it was 205! I took it again when I woke up: 248! And then two hours later when I had literally eaten nothing: 268! I am concerned. My diabetes has been well controlled for over a decade on metformin. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I am waiting until tomorrow to call my oncologist in case it is a fluke. I am so worried that she will want me to go to an endo md and get on insulin. I would much prefer getting OFF of Afinitor as I've lost 11 pounds in one week due to nausea. Any ideas or comfort?

Afinitor and blood sugar
It sounds like you do need to talk to your oncologist about this combination. I’m not on it, but loosing 11 pounds in one week is too much. That added to your blood sugar going wacky means you really need to talk to your care provider. Don’t let them put you off! Elaine
Hi I was on Afinitor. I stopped around the 6th week . I too lost 15 pounds and was very ill on that chemo pill. My blood sugar was all over the place. Started Ibrance but had to quit because I had an allergic reaction. Take care
You need ceylon cinnamon pills ASAP. My ibrance and letrozole raise my sugar and I never have that problem before until now. Also I have a few friends that take cinnamon and it works wonders with them too. U need to take 3 before eat or in the morning. U can get it on Amazon.
Sounds like you should speak to your onc.
I have a strong anti-Afinitor bias as it killed a good friend of mine right after it was approved in the US and none of her doctors realized that the breathing problems she was having were Afinitor related. So with that preface--I never wait to report things like this. I figure we have no wiggle room in terms of taking care of ourselves, and for you, blood glucose levels are not anything to fool around about! I'd call the doctor who treats your diabetes first and then the onc, if I were in your shoes. My brother and two first cousins have diabetes and I know more about that than the average person and have been concerned myself as my sugar levels are always just below the level for diagnosing type II diabetes..... Good luck, I hope this is something easily dealt with!
Thank you so much for the feedback. My numbers are back to normal after that one day, but I am watching them closely! And yes, I am VERY concerned about blood sugar. I was diagnosed about 15 years ago and have been well controlled with metformin, diet, and exercise. So, seeing them jump above 200 set my heart racing. Fingers crossed.
Of all that i read about women taking afinitor and exemestane no one mentions hair loss. Helena
