Does diet make a difference? My nurse says a high carb diet, including simple sugars, is not good when on Ibrance. However I don't find solid research on this. Has anyone found that cutting carbs actually helps?
Thanks for your input!

You’re right...there is no evidence that carbs are bad...I eat a healthy balanced diet...also I’m on strong pain meds and if I don’t eat cereals and whole meal bread and dried fruits etc I get awful constipation I also have occasional glasses of wine
Life’s for living...it’s bad enough living with this disease without having to feel you have to be a martyr
My opinion

I'm in a support group for people with metastatic cancers. The oncology social worker who coordinates it recently shared this link with us....dietary guidelines for cancer prevention and survivorship written by an MD. There's a good section on whole grains/carbs. Bon Appétit!
I asked my onc. about sugar as it is supposed to "feed" the cancer. She doesn't buy that. That being said, she believes in eating a good diet - eat real food, nothing processed, limit sugar (everyone should limit sugar), good veggies, fruit, etc. I'm 72 and figure I'm on limited time, so if I want to occasionally eat Chinese or Mexican or pizza, I do. I'm not going to spend what time I have left depriving myself all the time. I try to be good more than bad, but you gotta have some pleasure sometimes. Same when it comes to booze. I rarely drink, but if I wan a nice gin and tonic on a hot day, I have one.
I start Ibrance when my blood counts come up too far. My "plan", and I laugh at the word, is lots of organic vegetables, gluten free grains, majority vegetarian, and fruit for sugar. This doesn't mean I won't cheat, mind you. Life is very short. I don't want to wrestle the sugar fear every time I see a piece of strawberry shotcake. Mmmmm. Shortcake.
Yes I am 100% convinced it does. A total carnivore. Never got the concept you are what you eat etc. I changed everything for 3 weeks. No meat, had lentils broths aloe Vera juice etc am everything righted itself. Blood pressure, sugar levels and so on. Still justifying red wine as part of my five a day x #lyingtomyself
And was told today NED.
I’m sure a high carb diet is not good for any of us whether we have MBC or not! I go with the “well rounded diet and not making yourself miserable by depriving yourself of treats” school of thought. My oncologist says your cells need sugar to function so depriving your cancer cells of sugar means depriving your healthy cells also. Elaine
So agree with you, but isn't it interesting that the Chinese eat an enormous amount of rice and Italians eat lot of pasta and don't have the obesity problem we have in the U.S.? I think sugar (added sugar, not natural sugar) and high fructose corn syrup is the culprit. Fast food and processed food is the real problem in this country.
