Hi, I like reading about positive stories...😊. I am a firm believer in a healthy diet. It would be great to get cured with a pill but at stage 4 we need to address all possible causes, including stress, diet, etc.

I am doing a similar diet to the one she mentions, plant-based with the occassional egg, oily fish and organic chicken. I do not know if it is a coincidence but my markers are within normal levels and it is gone/dormant in the bones.

I am on holiday in Ibiza at the moment and I am feeling good! I will find it a bit hard not not to drink any wine but I think I'll manage...! Xx

Me too! I'm getting great results being a good girl and I'm worth all of my dedicated hard work.

My CBC, CMP and tumor marker monthly test results are like an exam for me that I love!

The scans are not fun to do at all, however, they provide the necessary research for tweaking my diet if needed.

I have failed more academic exams then I care to mention in my lifetime, so this one exam is right in my wheel house for the 1st time ever.

Now I finally can take an exam that I'm honestly excited to see the grade.

I'm turning 61 on June 20th, ( Mentally I feel 41) and I intent to live a very long life at least the next 15 years. For me, there's still way too much to accomplish.

Sure, I love a good wine and I've enjoyed all I need, perhaps if a good exceptional glass of wine was offered, I would enjoy a sip, but for now I have a more exciting goal... me! That is keeping me on this planet as long as I can .. God willing and the creek don't rise.

On a side note, I've integrated the new plant base hamburger meat in my diet adding an organic barbecue sauce, on top a bed of organic greens with my stable Japanese sweet potato and an occasional fresh peach, Yum !! I love it. I also started drinking a cup of organic Turmeric chicken bone broth in the afternoon with a rice cake or two.

Hi,

I also feel I have an exam every month and I feel proud when I keep getting good results after my hard work.

As you, I do dot mind drinking at the moment as my goal is much more important. If I achieve complete remission I will then celebrate with a glass of wine (organic, of course) 😁!

I love the way you have managed to tweak recipes you enjoy and made them healthier, that's the way to go! Xx

It's encouraging to hear we have similar goals and attitudes, as we are in fact charting new territory in the world of Breast Cancer.

As you well know being positive is the Key for unlocking our ability to create miracles for ourselves.

I do know we will always have to depend on medication to stop the estrogen. That's why one of my new goals is to investigate out how all these inactive ingredients in the 29 generic "brands" of Letrozole is really impacting our MBC journey.

I'll let you know how it goes in the mean time keep following your "nutritional intuition",it's fun and exciting to discover knew food combinations. XX

I think the same way you do. I eat what I want and I have remained stable since diagnosis and Ibrance /Letrozole was started.

I started a whole food plant based way of eating and do a 13 hour intermittent fasting.

My oncologist knows and understands my food choices and whole heartedly agrees with it. She even referred me to a plant based gp within my health plan (Kaiser Permanente) , who I will see the 12th of June. Can't wait to hear what he has to say!

I will Mimi! I feel so fortunate my onc knew one. I'm in the San Diego area and the Kaiser plant based doctor's name is Dr. Raymond Berdugo.

Hi Ellie,

Thanks so much for sharing the link. Reading success stories like Kathy's gives us all hope that we can also beat cancer.

While I agree that diet plays a role in helping us regain control of our health, and can even lead to remission, I do believe that more is required. We also need to address other lifestyle factors such as exercise, the way we deal with stress (lessening it if possible), taking time out to rest, and continuing with our treatment. Let's also try to maintain a positive attitude as much as possible and to have hope. Doing so will not only provide a lift, but will also help protect us from additional health complaints such as high blood pressure and heart disease.

I am not in favour of stopping treatment and relying on diet or exercise alone for a cure. I am following an integrative approach that includes diet, exercise, standard of care treatment that has been prescribed by my oncologist, the COC protocol and I will also be adding Dr Callebout's protocol once I have had some more tests done. I also listen to the advice given by my GP, oncology nurses and pharmacists.

I am currently reading "Forks over Knives" and it is surprisingly easy to read! It talks about the benefits of a plant-based diet, which I am trying to incorporate more into my life. I am getting there, but it hasn't been easy to make the transition all at once, so I have been doing it gradually. I still eat some organic chicken, yoghurt and sometimes some beef. I can see myself turning vegan, or else having the occasional egg or chicken, and I don't like fish or seafood, so it's just a few things left that I want to either cut out or reduce.

After my diagnosis of MBC, I have been on a low carb-low sugar diet, hoping to reduce the glucose available to the tumor cells. (They rapidly light up on the petscan). I have one significant met, and I hope it shrinks in 3 months(Faslodex, Ibrance, xgeva and low-carb). I’ll let you know. Cheflala

I’ve read her book and actually she did a lot more than just diet!

The only way that she can claim that she beat cancer is to die of something else. Unfortunately, research does NOT show that dietary changes will cure metastatic breast cancer.

It is also total baloney that sugar in the diet causes cancer. This myth is based on a common (but not research-based) misinterpretation of how PET scans show glucose-uptake in rapidly dividing cells. All foods (proteins, fats, and carbohydrates) turn into blood glucose. Unfortunately, most people don't understand how food is metabolized in the digestive system, so they believe the baloney.

Have you heard of the obesity paradox? Research shows that if you have breast cancer and are overweight, you are more likely to live longer if you remain overweight. Yep, go read up on the research. So, if you have breast cancer and you're already fat, go ahead and enjoy that cookie or piece of pie.

Here's a research report on the obesity paradox: cebp.aacrjournals.org/conte...

my view is have a healthy balanced diet and incorporate what works best for you and your life style cos we're all different. I dont fancy the keto thing because I think it could be dangerous. I remember the Atkins diet which wasnt the best for me. Made me ill. Personally, Im eating less carbs and sugar than I did before but feel that can only be a good thing anyway - cancer or no cancer- and Im doing the intermitent fasting. Trying for 16/8 but if its too hard make do with 14/10 - overnight so not so bad. Also dairy free or organic where I can, very small amounts of organic meat/chicken/fish and avoiding soy products. Not obsessing - had cake and chocs - and wine - for birthday week but bank on it now. I know theres no scientific data for any of it and there's so much conflicting info out there so Im just doing what I think wouldnt do any harm anyway (hopefully that makes sense😜) x
