Faslodex

I am almost 73 and am wondering how many of you taking faslodex are post menopausal? It seems like it is a stronger hormone blocker than letrozole. I am currently taking Ibrance/Letrozole. Blessings, Hannah.

I am 65 and taking Ibrance and faslodex since my mbc dx. I had taken letrozole for almost 5 yrs. After my original dx of breast cancer following my first chemo, mastectomy and radiation. It may be that faslodex works differently than letrozole as my onc said my letrozole stopped working!

Indeed-it does appear to be a more powerful estrogen suppressor than Letrozole. I too am on Faslodex in conjunction with Ibrance and am 65. I am MBC to the bones after 3 different types of breast cancer.

Are you questioning the need for stronger suppression of estrogen even though we are “naturally suppressed” somewhat due to being post menopause?

Mariootsi and 4th Times, Thanks for your answers. I wondered if it was for premenopausal only. I think once the Ibrance/Letrozole stops working for me that I will ask onc to drop Letrozole and add Faslodex. Hannah

Yes, I guess you could call it “stronger”. I was on it with Verenzio for about 3 months. Stopped it when took different type of oral Chemo, butwill be restarting it soon when start Affinitor. I am 63 and have had no real side effects from the Faslofec.

I thought Faslodex was for post menopausal women. I was diagnosed the month of my 58th birthday, definitely post menopause, and got nearly five years from Letrozole and then over 9 years from Faslodex. I didn't notice a difference between them in terms of hot flashes or other estrogen related side effects. Both my onc and gynecologist were women, and they recommended a compounded testosterone cream (RX and not currently covered by Medicare, about $35 a month), to lessen vaginal atrophy and dryness. Of course I don't know how my vagina would be if I'd not been using that, but I believe it has helped me alot--something to ask about.

I was on Faslodex for 11 years and was post menopausal. It stopped working but at least I had 11 cancer free years!! I loved the fact too that I had absolutely no side effects from it other than a sore butt check once in awhile if the nurse doing the injection wasn't the best. LOL

When Letrozole stopped working for me, I started the Faslodex/Ibrance combo. I’m almost 71.

Thank you all for your replies. I am so glad that it is for post men. too. Blessings, Hannah

I was 73 when put on faslodex but no ibrance as we do no have it on the formulary yet. found the faslodex easy to tolerate provided one relaxed the side being injected and made sure the injection was warm first. Worked well to begin with but then I had progression so have stopped now.

Good luck
