Scan scheduling

Have been scheduled for my January scans. For the first time since I began this journey, they have scheduled my bone scan and 3 cts on the same day. It seems like a lot of radiation and contrast for my body to process in 1 day. Previously I would have the bone scan and then 3-4 days later the CT’s. Has anybody else been scheduled this way?

I only have had CT scans..never bone scans..it does seem unnecessary..I thought a CT scan was superior to a bone scan so why do both?

Bone scan is more specific to the bones

Yes I’ve done this twice now. I bring a good book and a few magazines and am resigned to a long day. Hope they schedule the bone scan injection before the CT’s so you don’t have to wait forever. Then you can get the CT’s done. have something to eat and then do the bone scan. As for the radiation, I don’t think too much about it. What’s the alternative? Good luck 🙏

I've been getting my scans exactly this way for the past 5 years. For me, it's the best way. Yes, the amount of radiation isn't ideal, but our situation calls for it. It was very hard for me adjusting to this new way of looking at health choices such as radiation exposure, ...but we're now looking to extend our lives as long as possible and early detection of changes and the responses to them outweigh radiation problems. Cancer sucks!😎

This past weekend I plummeted after reading some statistics about my type of breast cancer. I’ve been pretty even keeled, and this downer was bound to hit me as it does once in a while. You are so right on about cancer sucking. It will suck the spirit out of you if you let it. In the old days I’d balk about regular exposure to radiation. It isn’t something I think about now. 😕

I'm with you Nrocks! I have a weird twist to mine, it is very hard sometimes to deal with emotionally.

I’ve gone thru scans twice this year. Both are always scheduled the same day. I have done it for ease since I drive 75 minutes to the cancer center. Then my onco follow up is 24-48 hrs after.

My scans are scheduled this way. I'd rather knock it all out in one day. The technicians usually try to push you through and it really isn't as long as it could be.

Yes! I had it done that way 3 times and then returned 3 days later for Muga scan...now just doing CTs and maybe Pet in January...😀

I had a CT scan and bone scan on the same day. I was just glad to get it over with in one day so didn't think to much about too much radiation at one time. I am no expert but not sure 3-4 days would make a huge difference.

Thanks to everyone for your answers. It makes me worry when there is a change to my “routine testing” without any explanation. It does sound much more convenient to do it this way, but it hadn’t been offered before.

I scheduled them on different days with space of 3 days not for radiation exposure it is about the contrast medicine that we get, It can damage your kidney and liver before it was given They checked with blood test and I drink more water to flush the contrast solution faster

The CT contrast is iodinated, and its not ideal to have more than one dose. The Pet scan uses a different contrast. I found the link above helpful.

Wow seems a lot. I had nuclear bone scan and chest-abdomen CT all on same day - only 2 scans in all but no ill effects.
