Femur and hip.

I am wondering if any one else has had to have rods for their femur and support rod for hip? I have been on Ibrance and metronome since June 2016. Had bone and Dr scans in may2017. In late June I was having trouble with walking and pain. Mri said I needed support for hip and rod for femur. Has any one else had this done?

I've had a similar procedure, but probably not the same as yours. While I've heard of women who have required hip replacement surgery, my own involved the distal end, opposite the hip, of my right femur. My orthopedic surgeon removed the cancerous end of my femur and replaced it with a titanium apparatus that includes rods being inserted and glued into the hollowed out tibia and femur. I've noticed a significant lessening of pain except during rainy weather. I use a cane to assist in mobility. I hope this helps some. If not, I'm sorry. Blessings! πŸ’™πŸ’—πŸ’šπŸ’—πŸ’™

I have cancer that has spread to my hips and part of my femur. Nothing has been done yet. I can still walk but tire easily. The pain in my sacrum is worst. I wish you all the best.

They will be using titanium for my femur and hip. How was Your recovery? I will have to use walker for a month then cane. Not sure how long with cane. Thank you for responding. Hope all is well with you.

Hi! My recovery wasn't bad at all. I spent two to three weeks using my walker and have used a cane ever since as needed. My big bad was not getting a referral for physical therapy. I get pretty sore when it rains or when I walk a lot but that's including spinal mets so it's to be expected. I was getting around pretty good less than two months post op πŸ˜€πŸ‘ Wishing you all the best!! πŸ’™πŸ’—πŸ’šπŸ’—πŸ’™

My tumor fractured my femur. The orthopedic oncologist in Albany, NY put a rod through my femur with stabilizing screws at both ends. The fracture never knit together, so thank God for the rod!πŸ˜€

I had the rare side effect of Xgeva causing fractures in both of my femurs. Nov 18, 2016 had right titanium rod inserted into the right femur and December 9, 2016 had rod inserted into left femur with stabilizing screws in thigh and knee. Healing time was about 2 weeks for each surgery, followed by using a walker for about a month. I was pain free for about 7 months then tumor appeared in my knee so we did 10 rounds of radiation and I now feel better than I have in about 18 month. I am able to work everyday and walk without any assistance. The doctor said I will continue to get fractures in the femurs but don't have to worry about them breaking since the rod is in place. I have a high tolerance for pain and low tolerance for pain meds so never take any medication for pain but I do take turmeric for the joint pain and it seems to help. Having the rods also took away the stress about worrying about when the femur would break. I hope all is going well with you.

Thank you for the input. I myself am dealing with rare side effects from xgevea and z ometa. It has caused a hole in left femur. And hip. Also is causing my gum and jaw bone to be exposed in my mouth. Currently being treated by a maximolary oral surgeon. They are going to be doing surgery on my mouth to cover exposed areas in hope that will take care of it. Let's hope because the other alternative is facial reconstruction surgery. I have not had surgery on my femur yet or hip. They are trying to fix my mouth issue first. I hope you are well.
