I have been on that for a while. It works great for me. I tried to go off it and realized how effective it really was so I gave up on the idea.

Interesting that you had it diagnosed for hot flashes. I've been on the drug as an antidepressant for years before my Cancer diagnosis. It certainly did NOT help me with hot flashes but that could be because I had built it up in my system already. Good luck.

Wow...that could be the case. If it doesn't help mine I am getting off of it.

I've been taking it for about a year and a half now and it works great for me. It also worked really great for my mood swings and anxiety. I felt so much better after a few weeks of being on it. Best decision I ever made for myself. My gyno said that Gapapentin is also good for hot flashes. So, ask your doctor about that one if this doesn't work for you.

Hi Partia,

I use Effexor and it works for me. If I miss a dose I have terrible night sweats. But, I never had daytime hot flashes even when I went through menapose...just the night sweats. Hope it works for you.

I'm a long term metastatic breast cancer patient, on anti estrogen for almost 13 years. Effexor has lessened hot flashes from many times a day, turning bright red, sweating so much it ran down my face, to an occasional "warm surge." I am currently taking 75mg of the long acting Effexor twice a day. I do find that during the weeks when weather is changing, my body temp is harder to regulate. I tried black cohash and it was horrible--after just three doses I has thoughts of suicide and killing our pets, not like me at all. I learned then that there is no central place to report bad side effects like that for CAM.

I take it for anti depressant. It has not helped with my hot flashes. I use peppermint oil for my hot flashes. You can get it st a health store. Couple drops behind my ears, it helps

I was taking it for 3 weeks and then I had to come to Tennessee because my elderly mother is very ill. I don't think that I was taking it long enough for it to do anything yet and found out my insurance wouldn't pay for it over here. So I'm going to stop taking it and I'm going to definitely try that peppermint oil. Thank you
