NO MORE HOT FLASHES! PLUS SOME COMMENTS ABOUT CT SCANS/RADIATION

HELLO WARRIOR SISTERS! I HAVE A BIT OF GOOD NEWS! I STARTED TAKING GINGER 550 MG. CAPSULES ABOUT A WEEK AGO AND NOTICED THE OTHER DAY THAT I HAVEN'T HAD A HOT FLASH SINCE STARTING THEM! I ALSO WANT TO REPORT THAT IT HAS HELPED MY LOWER BACK PAIN VERY MUCH; DUE TO THE ANTI-INFLAMMATORY PROPERTIES I'M GUESSING. THE BACK PAIN STARTED WHEN I STARTED TAKING LETROZOLE, WHICH IS ALL I TAKE RIGHT NOW. THEY RECOMMEND NO MORE THAN 3 TO 4 GRAMS OF GINGER PER DAY, SO I TAKE 3 CAPSULES IN THE MORNING AND 3 IN THE AFTERNOON. OH AND I FOUND THEM AT SWANSON'S VITAMINS ONLINE FOR $2.63 PER 100 CAPSULES; I LOOKED AND LOOKED FOR A GOOD DEAL, I DO NOT PROFIT FROM SWANSON'S VITAMIN SALES ONE BIT BY THE WAY. I DIDN'T EXPECT THE HOT FLASHES TO GO, WHAT A NICE AND UNEXPECTED SIDE EFFECT <GRIN>. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT HAVING HOT FLASHES AGAIN WAS ONE OF THE WORST SIDE EFFECTS FROM LETROZOLE! I AM CURRENTLY AT "STABLE DISEASE" STATUS WITH BONE SCAN SHOWING ONE SPOT GONE AND 3 SMALLER IN 90 DAYS OF TAKING LETROZOLE, PRAISE GOD! NEXT APPOINTMENT IS THE 16TH. I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT A BONE SCAN HAS ABOUT THE SAME AMOUNT OF RADIATION AS A REGULAR XRAY; WHERE A CT SCAN IS LIKE 100 TO 200 XRAYS. THE HARVARD COLLEGE OF RADIOLOGY RECOMMENDS NO MORE THAN 25 CT SCANS PER LIFE TIME. I LOOKED ALL THIS UP BECAUSE I HAD RADIATION IN 2013 AND NO ONE COULD TELL ME WHAT MY CUMULATIVE RADIATION TOTAL WAS NOW, SO I REMEMBERED THEM SAYING I WOULD RECEIVE A TOTAL OF 60 GRAY IN 32 TREATMENTS. A CT SCAN IS 7 TO 10 MILLISIEVERTS PER SCAN SO 25 TOTALS 250 AT THE MOST. THERE ARE 1,000 MILLISIEVERTS IN A GRAY, SO AFTER RADIATION I HAD ALREADY HAD 60,000. I TOLD THIS TO THE TECHNICIAN WHEN I HAD MY BONE SCAN AND HE VERIFIED MY MATH, WHICH IS NOT COMPLICATED BUT STILL A BIT OF GREEK TO ME. I ALSO WANT TO SAY THAT NEITHER ME NOR HUBBY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET OUR DOCTORS TO GIVE EITHER OF US AN MRI FOR ANYTHING OVER THE LAST 10 YEARS, AND WE'VE HAD THE BEST RETIREMENT INSURANCE OUT THERE BC/BS; THEY JUST SAY CT SCANS ARE MORE EFFECTIVE, I DO KNOW HOWEVER THAT MRI'S DO NOT GIVE OFF ANY RADIATION, SO I THINK IT'S MAYBE THE FACT THAT THEY ARE SO VERY EXPENSIVE. NOT TRYING TO SCARE ANYONE, I JUST BELIEVE IN SHARING KNOWLEDGE. I'M STAGE 4 MBC SO WHY WORRY ABOUT RADIATION YOU MIGHT SAY. WELL, BECAUSE I MIGHT LIVE A LONG TIME IF IT BE GOD'S WILL, AND I DON'T WANT RADIATION POISONING. GOD BLESS YOU AND PLEASE HEAL US ALL IN JESUS NAME, AMEN! P.S. I AM NOT SHOUTING, IT IS JUST MUCH EASIER TO READ ALL CAPS <GRIN>

I’ve heard a lot of good about ginger lately! Bought some to start cooking with...and yea about the scans! I’ve thought the same thing...3-4 a year permanently might not be the best idea! 😂🙈🤣😂

I especially loved reading how it kills cancer stem cells; and I love that it is non-toxic too! They recommend 3 to 4 grams a day which equates to 3,000 to 4,000 milligrams for those who do not know, I had to look it up! They say the powder is just as good, if not more potent than fresh because of the active ingredient being more powerful in the powder. The shogaols, if I remember correctly. Did you see the link I had posted a while back on all the testing and studies that's been done on ginger? I had no idea! A dear lady had posted about it on here or I never would have known about it! I love this support group. God bless you!

I bought some dried ginger and tried ginger tea 2 days in a row. It made my stomach upset! I thought ginger was good for upset stomach. I used 1 tsp. in like a 12-oz mug. Maybe I'll try less. I'm assuming capsules as they dissolve would do the same thing. Bummer.

I don't know. I take the capsules and maybe it's the gel in the caps that keep it from irritating my tummy but it never does and I take 3 at a time with a big glass of water. I couldn't take tumeric, I tried quite a while back as I heard it was good for arthritis. Try the capsules because you're right, it's supposed to help stomach/digestion problems! God bless you!

I am going to increase my amount of ginger root. I take tea every night and I made it strong. My hot flashes sometimes are horrible and other moderate. Before used to be horrible all the time. About MRI. I have Medicaid bc I lost my job and my onc request a MRI for my chest and it was approved. I also I have MRI when I did have private insurance. You should request to your doctor. Other ppl said MRI are better than CT scan. It hard to know which its truth right.

me and hubby have begged for MRI's over the past 10 years over CT scans; and always refused. we wanted that instead because it has ZERO radiation. my daughter-in-law is also on medicaid and has MRI's all the time, so I'm thinking and I heard, that it is the insurance companies that give the doctors trouble for ordering MRI's instead of CT's because CT's are so much cheaper! ginger still working for me, 3 capsules equaling 1600 mg. in the morning approximately as each cap is 540 mg. I think.
