Marianne. I tried Effexor years ago. Better for me than Zoloft but felt a bit flat. I foolishly tried to go off it cold turkey 🦃 which is a no no for ssris

People have different reactions to all the types of antidepressants out there. My psych says you can’t kill your self with that class if drug so docs like that. He never gives me enough at a time (of Elavil which can cause heart block) to be lethal. 3 years ago that would have been a concern I was so shocked and terrified of my diagnosis. I’m a work in progress. Sometimes a real piece of work!

I'm taking effexor for hot flashes & depression. I was on it 2 years ago for the hot flashes, a low dose that was upped to 175mg. (just didn't seem to help). I stupidly stopped taking it by accident. Cold turkey, just stopped w/o realizing what I was doing. Not sure why I did this! But I was off it for 5 mos. & started to get super depressed (just lost my pup to cancer). My oncologist put me right back on it (lower dose) & I do feel better. The hot flashes, well they are not as bad & a bit more manageable!

I take a low dose of it for hot flashes and it has really helped. My dose is 37.5 I believe.

Does it help with anxiety if you have any

Yes. I take it at night to keep the night terrors away. My dose is the lowest at 37.5mg. In the morning I take 5mg of Ritalin to turn it off. Otherwise, I'm yawning all day!

I don't know. I don't have tons of anxiety to be able to tell. I still have my sad moments where I cry and feel bad about myself.

I have been on Effexor for several years for depression. It does help and if I miss one or two days, I start to feel funny. I am at a high dose of 225 mg which I take in the morning. Do some of you find it works better to take it in the evening? I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002, and mets to my bones in August 2016. Letrozol and Xgeva has kept me stable and I also take essiac oil drops morning and evening which I believe has been a big part of the stable part.

Yes. Only thing that works for my severe hot flashes. 150 mg.

I've been on it for about 12 years for hot flashes from hormonal treatment. My onc prescribes 75 mg tablets and I take it two times a day most of the time, but when seasons change, I need a third dose a day. Before using Effexor, I would have hot flashes that turned me bright red and sweat would just pour off my head and face, very noticeable and very uncomfortable, several times a day, sometimes several times an hour! I get the long acting Effexor and it prevents hot flashes though I do get an occasional "warm surge", which is sooo mild compared to the hot flashes. I do not notice feeling any different on Effexor, don't feel at all flat or stiffed or unlike myself. I am on more meds for side effects than for cancer and that cracks me up! Hope it works for you If not, there are alot of anti-depressants available.
