It's been about 3 years(2020) since I was diagnosed with HER2 + breast cancer. I had undergone a double mastectomy and a full year of chemo. During my twice a year check-ups (every 6 months) I was always given a Cancer Antigen( CA 27.29) blood test, but with this visit this test was not done, I had asked my Oncologist why not, and he said I no longer need the test. I was given a Compreshensive Metabolic Panel blood test & a CBC with differential blood test which all had normal readings. Is this considered normal after a certain point in time to no longer be getting the CA27.29 test? Or on my next visit should I insist this be done?
Any opinion or feedback is much appreciated.

I'm a long timer (19 years this month) with metastatic bc and have learned all I can about bc and I don't have an answer to your question but it has been my impression that oncs vary alot in their use of tumor markers like the CA25-27. Personally, I had them done every 3 months or so for quite a few years and now I haven't had one in a few years. From what I've learned, the most important thing is how our bodies are feeling to us. Scans and blood work come next with tumor markers a very distant third! They can be thrown off by things unrelated to cancer and they aren't "accurate" for everyone. Some oncs don't use them at all. Maybe your onc can explain more to you. And if you get a good explanation, you could pass it along to us!
I was told that after that number goes under a certain number for so long, it's no longer followed. I requested that it continue to be followed for my piece of mind. Hope this helps.
