Update to Here We Go Again

There are 4 tumors, and the onc report says they are Stage II Grade II ER+ PR+ HER2- I hope this is accurate as the last breast cancer was a triple negative encasing a triple positive (hard to treat!)

I am still going to Florida for the month of October; surgery is Nov 1. Need to recharge my batteries!

Mastectomy is still the only option - not what I wanted to hear, but I have been talking to ladies who have gone through it and hopefully it will be an "easy" surgery and recovery.

I have the best friends a person could ask for - they have all circled around me and are keeping me busy until I leave for Florida.

This is NOT what I want, but I feel a little more confident that I can handle it. Please pray for an easy surgery and that recovery is swift!!

Please know that you are in my prayers. My BC is Er/Pr+ HER2- and the medication I am on is tolerable (Anastrozole). I’ve never had the surgery though and if I have progression I will opt for it. Knowing that I am ATM+ helped me decide.

Denzie, you are in my prayers, too. Thank you for all of your help!! What is ATM+ I have never heard of that before. ENJOY YOUR VACATION!

ATM is a biomarker that indicates a predisposition to breast cancer, much like BRCA 1/2 or EGFR/ALK/etc in lung cancer. When my breast cancer was diagnosed in 2014 it was not tested for.

It also predisposes me to pancreatic cancer so we watch for symptoms. One article I read indicated that as many of 40% of breast cancer patients may acquire an ATM mutation. I have not been able this verify that so don’t quote me. In the meanwhile I have annual mammograms and breast MRIs 6 months apart.

I had a bilateral mastectomy last October. I wouldn’t use the word “easy” to describe it, but I got through it, and no one would describe me as “tough.” I have faith you’ll get through it, too! Enjoy your vacation and it sounds weird, but enjoy your natural boobs while you have them!
