Just Diagnosed with breast cancer

Hello dear women who struggle with breast cancer. I am new to all of this as I was just diagnosed two days ago with Breast Cancer after biopsy. I'm not sure what stage I'm at, the doctor thinks stage zero. I go in Tuesday to talk about options for a full or partial mastectomy. Any advice on nutrition and how that can impact cancer would be greatly appreciated. God bless you all as you journey through treatments during the holidays.

Hi there. It sounds like you have DCIS. I also had DCIS and had a lumpectomy followed by radiation. That was 12 years ago. You asked about nutrition. It's always good to eat healthy. It's probably a good idea to cut back on sugar. A good balanced diet is good for all of us. Your doctor will give you options as to how to treat your breast cancer. Just remember you have options and there is no right it wrong. Do what you feel most comfortable with. If you need support you can always call the SHARE helpline. They receive calls every day between the hours of 9:30 am until 9:30 pm. The helpline is even open on Christmas. Hope this helps.

We all know how scared and confused you must feel but also know that you're not alone, that you're in good company. There's a wealth of information among SHARE women...and lots of hope. I've posted a bunch of articles I've written about my BC experience, which might be helpful. Good luck on Tuesday. And if you'd like help or advice, SHARE has a helpline you can call from anywhere.

Hi,

Let me begin by saying that you have some time to make a decision. You don't need to make a decision today. I would suggest that you call the SHARE Helpline 866.891-2392. You can ask to speak someone that has had DCIS. It's always helpline to speak with someone that has been there. There is lots of information of the SHARE website. In the Search box you can enter the term "DCIS". There you will find information about DCIS. In addition to the SHARE website, it will suggest other trusted sites with information about DCIS. On the website is an article about DCIS, called "Letting the Air Out of the Balloon". It addresses the "grey" area surrounding DCIS or Stage 0.

Nutrition or eating well is always important but especially when you are considering surgery. The best advice is always moderation. But at this time for you, organic foods would be very helpful. It would be good if you could limit your exposure to chemicals that are added to foods. You may want to look at the Environmental Working Groups website for help with that.

I wish you calm and peace as you go through this journey.
