Copper coil problems or normal?

I had the copper coil fitted just over a week ago. I was expecting bleeding from it but I'm experiencing some significant blood loss. I can only describe it similar to blood loss after giving birth. I'm not really getting pain, but I'm feeling a lot of lower abdomen discomfort which radiates down my legs and I feel very tired and get light headed. Is this normal?

I am going to call my doctors, but I just thought I'd check in with others and see what other people have experienced. I hate to be a bother to my GP if it is something that is normal and I'm worrying for no reason. I've tried to Google but, as always it's no help at all and lots of very conflicting information there.
