I have successfully used supplements like beta sisosterol, saw palmetto and stinging nettle combined with daily pelvic floor exercises to reduce urinary issues. Prescription medications may be even more effective but they often have undesirable side effects so some doctors are hesitant to prescribe them.

I tried tamsulosin (Flomax) but this causes retrograde ejaculation, which was unacceptable for me. I did get a prescription for the so called prostate shrinking finasteride (Proscar) but having googled side effects (which can be long lasting even after ceasing it) decided it was not foe me. I had Urolift in 2021 which made no difference and was messed up as one end of one of the 4 implants used was embedded in my bladder which formed a stone and caused endless UTIs until it was discovered in 2023. Subsequently that implant and stone were removed. I then had Rezum earlier this year which has made no difference. Have researched other treatments and am on waiting list for Aquablation at Guys Hospital. There is an informative YouTube video, go to this link:

By the way, the urolift implant in the bladder is a very rare occurence. You might want to do further research via Google Scholar which brings up research and study papers. You have to cut through the jargon though:

I was originally on doxazosin and now on tamsulosin. I have had no side effects from this family of drugs but find that their benefits decrease with time. I am hoping t start daily tadalafil soon.

At the risk of sounding pedantic, may I point out that doxazosin, tamsulosin and tadalafil are not prostate shrinking drugs. They work essentially by relaxing the area where the urethra leaves the bladder and where it subsequently passes through the prostate. If you suffer from BPH, your prostate continues to grow but your symptoms should, in many cases, reduce.

Drugs which actually shrink the prostate can take six months to work. Finasteride is the most commonly used example of this type of drug.
