I'm not sure about this one! I have been taking a magnesium/calcium/zinc supplement for the last month or so....just to see if it does make any difference. I'm not sure if it has or not as rls is quite erratic anyway, but I have been a little better. I forgot to take it yesterday and had a really bad night. I still have it now! I assumed I would build up the magnesium in my body if I am taking it regularly and missing one dose should not really have much effect ....so jury still out on this one. I may try a pure mag next although I understand it is absorbed better with calcium

I suppose it's a case of suck it and see............ Please let me know if your RLS does improve with time. Thanks thedragon for your reply.

Alot of people say they get benefit by taking magnesium, it is a matter of trying it out. What works for one as usual doesnt for someone else. I have tried it in the past, and had to stop because it is inclined to work to well on my bowels. So, i dont know whether it would have helped or not.

No need to apologise....lets say, it wont hurt you to try... :)

pure magnesium yes for me, no calcium as this can exasperate rls/cramps/stiffness, also i choose celated 800 mg per day

yes, I'm a magnesium phosphate taker. please have a look at my blogs on the subject on this site. I had immediate success. I also supplemented it for a while with just one cocodamol at the same time in the evening. I'm not taking either now and my rls is under control. I'd point out that my rls is very intermittent and months or years go by without an episode (though this was the worst one) so I'm not one of the long-term sufferers. please don't hesitate to let me have any questions you might have after reading my blogs.

good luck and best wishes.

I'd say that, unless there are any reasons not to, go ahead and give it a try. I was convinced it worked for me for a few months, and it was great, but just lately the twitches, twinges, discomfort (call it what you will!) have been starting up again in the evening. But then I did have three cups of instant coffee a few days ago...........

I took Magnesium years ago when I was first diagnosed, but it did nothing on it's own. I decided to try it again a few weeks ago, I take Magnesium (150mg) and Magnesiam ciltrate 927.64mg) with my fentonyl patch and 0.5 of sifrol. I think it is helping, mainly when my legs start up, they seem to calm down a lot quicker now, I don't know if it is the magnesium or not but we are all desperate to try anything.

Hi yes i take magnesium daily and it helps to calm my RLS. I also take iron supplements to boost my low ferritin levels. If i forget to take magnesium my rls worsens.

Speak with a pharmacist. I took high dose magnesium to ease an irritable cough as it relaxes the muscles which cause the repeated cough reflex. Worked but also worked on my bowels!

As a relaxant to ease a cough I don't see why, in principal, it won't work for RLS. Let us know how you get on!
