MORNING MAGGIE.. :)

Hi Maggie, hope things look better for you this morning. I have just read your last comment on your questions.

Please do NOT be sorry that you spilled out how you were feeling last night. A support group is exactly that, to support each and everyone of us who are going through hell. Its not just here to ask about RLS and the meds. Its more than that.

You did have us worried thats for sure, mostly because we feel useless when we read of someone going through such a hard time. We can only suggest what you could do.

But we are always hear to listen and help in some small way. So hun, rant and rave all you like.

I hope you are phoning your doctor this morning, you have to let them know exactly how you are feeling, you need to get off the pramipexole and try another med before you get some relief. I am wondering if your doctor knows about augmentation because that is what is happening to you. So i would suggest taking some info on that to show him/her. Or show this site again. and the comments from last night....that might make them sit up and take notice.

Can you post, just so we know how you are this morning...

Hi Elisse, thanks to all you lovely people u got me through the worse night of my life..im in the middle of telling you all what happened at my GP's this morning, plz read it, can a GP be any worse??

Tell me elisse, what is Augmentation?

Hi Maggie, glad to hear from you.... :) Augmentation is is when the medications starts to work against the RLS, it is mostly pramipexole, ropinerole and the neupro patch that it happens with. The RLS symptoms start earlier in the day and keeps you awake at night, when you up the dose it can work for a while, then the symptoms become worse again. When that happens, it wont improve until you get off that med.. Its sounds as if that is what is happening to you, which is why you havent had any sleep...

Hi Elisse I am on 2mg neuro patch and have been using them for about three months. Before that I was taking Ropinerole but this was really upsetting my stomach. The patches were wonderful at first but I am now getting some bad nights again so I guess this is what you called augmentation. I think I'll go mad if I go right back to square one especially after experiencing what it is like to be able to lie in bed and not jump and twitch and have to get up every 5 mins. If I have to come off the patches do you know which meds are best for not causing augmentation? Hope yopu can help.

To find out what other meds you can use go to this website, rlshelp.org look at the treatment page it gives a list of meds, for RLS, as its a US site we dont use every med on there here in the UK. but it will help you see what else can be used. You can even e-mail the doctor on there for advise and he will reply back in 24-48 hrs. That site has a wealth of info about RLS, apart from the medications, it covers food and drink to avoid and lots of other useful info.

Good luck..

Maggie, hi! So glad to see you are ok. :o) I echo everything Elisse said. Instead of me going thru the whole med list I would suggest that when you feel like it, look up the treatment page on rlshelp.org It is a US site, but it lists all meds to use and not use, depending on which ones are available in the UK. There are several classes of meds to try besides the dopamine agonists that are causing your augmentation. They are not the "only game in town" as they say.

((hugs))
