My doctor has suggested I take amitriptyline for back pain but I'm sure I've read on here that it can make RLS worse. Have I imagined this or is it true I would appreciate clarification please.

amitriptyline

It will make your RLS 1000% worse.RLS-UK has a list of Medications to avoid on the website. Just show to your GP.
For back pain- you'd be better taking pregabalin or gabapentin. They help nerve pain and won't worsen RLS.
I admit I gave it a go. I knew it would make rls worse, but had to at least say that I tried it.. for pain.Lasted 24 days, but at least it's on my record.
A big NO !!!
Thanks for your response I was thinking of doing exactly that, have now decided against
It's sad that we have to say no to it.There is some weak evidence that it works with pregabalin to help with pain.
I have friends who take it like that, but they don't have rls.
I believed that my doctor (at the time) would think I was after opioids if I didn't give it a try - so that's why I took it.
Anyway I ended up on Naproxen, which I find quite useless, so I just have 300 mg of pregabalin now.
Chronic pain and rls are exhausting !
