PLMD and coming off Pramipexole

I have decided to come off Pramipexole for my PLMD, suffering a lot from augmentation. I have read so many helpful posts and am so grateful to those wonderful people in this forum who are unfailingly ready to help.

But ......when I learn from people's posts, that I will need a "low dose opioid" or a "strong painkiller like tramadol or OxyContin", I wonder what this "pain" is ?

Where does the pain manifest itself?

Can anyone tell me please?

The opioid is mainly to lower the increased symptoms of augmentation while you are coming of pramipexole and opioids alone are used to control RLS and PLMD. Some people will have generalized pain when withdrawing from a DA and of course it helps with that.

Most people do NO have pain. Opioids work on the same brain receptors that cause RLS so are very helpful in stopping RLS sensations. As you withdraw from Pramipexole, the RLS increases in severity and becomes intolerable. Opioids can help you through the worst of it but don't stop all the sensations.

That's helpful, thanks so much

The actual pain is the withdrawal symptoms. Shivers, hunger, full body horrors, head fuzz, acute depression and whatever private hell you are unable to endure..

Easy.😝

The ‘pain’ I had stopping Prami was just like augmentation but worse, and as suggested to me, I took codeine to help get through that, and even though I have been clear some months now, I still take a single codeine most nights, but the RLS is more manageable now

That's really helpful to know, thanks so much. I feel quite anxious about coming off Pramipexole, as though my nights are fairly good now, I am increasingly getting the "rebound" thing, where the leg jerks start during the night and early morning. Thanks for the reply.
