Restless leg syndrome

Hi, iv suffered severe restless legs for years, also affecting my right arm.The treatment that augmentated my symptoms was pramipexole, Quinine didnt work and pregablin didn't work, currently back on ropinarol and codeine. The neurology consultant said when I go back he's suggested a Gabapentinoid added.

Seriously bad advice from your Doctors.I've answered your other post.

Sounds like augmentation.

Augmentation is absolutely torture. The consultant did advice me on life style changes ie. Limited caffeine, sugar, processed foods, ankle and foot stretches and walking

They will make ZERO difference when you're augmented on Ropinirole. The ONLY solution is to get off ALL dopamine agonists.

Your right, whatever I do, it's still no different. The concern I have is coming off treatment and being on my own with nothing . It's hard isn't it.

You will actually feel better once you’re free of Ropinirole. I’m not saying your symptoms will magically disappear, but the augmented symptoms will begin to go away.

I got off of it and all my augmentations went away. The best treatment I’ve had for restless legs is Iron Infusions. Have you had your iron levels checked?

Hi, I did have them checked and ferritin saturation levels, I can't remember off hand, I'd need to find the letter. But my iron was showing as below where it should be. Then it took me 2months to actually talk to a Dr to authorise the med changes. It was ridiculous. I'm just so fed up

are you taking a supplement? There is a really helpful post in this board describing in detail how to take it and what type to take.

I know for sure that mine is rooted in my iron deficiency.

I’ll see if I can find the post and direct you to it.

Thank you so much, I'm so grateful for everyone's guidance, I don't take any supplements at the moment. Was it magnesium?

iron bisglycinate.

Magnesium is a good one to take too.

Thank you, can I take these with the current meds I'm on or do I need to wait until I'm med free?

yes… you can take them with your current meds.

Thank you. I am so so relieved I can chat to people who understand and know what to do/where to go with this.

take 50mg of the iron every other day with Vit. C. For me the most effective time is about an or so before sleeping. Not getting into bed but actually going to sleep.

As for the magnesium take a glycinate as well. It is well tolerated. If your belly gets upset take it every other day.

You can also get a magnesium lotion. I buy mine from Earthly.com. It’s called good night lotion. It’s very helpful.

I can’t find the post I mentioned earlier but the info above is what I got from it. If I find it.. I’ll send it to you.

Please consider getting of the prescription. The short term discomfort is worth the long term issues with it.

Yes I'm definitely wanting to rid these awful symptoms and try natural ways, magnesium, vit C, and anythin that will ease it all. Getting off the meds is the way forward and that's thanks to everyone here who has been there for me. The Dr's said to me they know very little about RLS and I think it should be brought in, that medical professionals have to study RLS like another medical condition
