Horizant stopped working

Never thought this would happen but after three and half years on Horizant, has stopped working. Even taking twice dose didn’t do any good. I know I can’t take methadone, but I was wondering what people’s experience might be with the partial opiate called Buprenorphine. Like what is the dosage, etc. I’m really in a bad way.

Since Horizant worked I suggest you switch to pregabalin. You can check with your pharmacist for the equivalent amount of pregabalin. Take it 1 to 2 hours before bedtime and not with food. Then increase it by 25 mg every couple of days until it helps you RLS. According to the Mayo Clinic Updated Algorithm on RLS: "Most RLS patients require 200 to 300 mg of pregabalin." However I assume you are on pramipexole and as you take less and less of it, you RLS gets worse and this is probably why the Horizant doesn't work and will affect the pregabalin too.

Once you are finally off pramipexole, the pregabalin should control your RLS.

Buprenorphine has been miraculous for me.I take 0.2mg at 9pm and 0.2mg at midnight. 3.5 years later it is still working. Look at my post from yesterday about the Massachusetts Opioid Register. Average dose is 1.2mg.

The USA doesn't have the low dose sublingual pills that we can get here in the UK. The lowest dose is 2mg. So get a pill cutter and cut in quarters and start with 0.5mg. Many in the UK do very well on 0.2mg.

I would agree with Jools, Buprenorphine has been excellent for me too. Just a very small dose and complete cover over 6 months now.I hope you find the right answer and get through the bad time quickly.

Johan.

Hi. I also take 0.4 mgs Buprenorphine sl tablet and am nearly 9 months Rls free after 26 yrs of suffering . It has changed my life like you would never believe . It was a battle to get it prescribed by a Gp even with a neurologists letter . I live in hope that it will be licensed in the Uk in my lifetime for Rls . Good luck .
