First of all, I am so thankful for this community and the information I have found on here. I am finally getting relief from my RLS by taking gabapentin. My doctor has been way too conservative, starting me at 100mg and only increasing 100mg every week or two weeks. I am finally at a dosage of 1200mg (600 split in two doses). The whole time I’ve been on Gabapentin, I have been also using medical marijuana. I am still using the marijuana because the dosage I was at previously wasn’t getting me the relief I needed and I found using the marijuana with the Gabapentin was very helpful. I want to completely discontinue the marijuana but I still suffer from insomnia. I have some trazodone my doctor gave me but I am wondering if I should take it to help me fall asleep? Reason being, the few times I took the trazodone (not on gabapentin at that time) it made my RLS worse. Will taking the trazodone make my RLS flare up even though I am on gabapentin now? Are there any other medication I can take for my insomnia with the gabapentin?

taking trazodone with Gabapentin
I would not take the trazodone since it made your RLS worse, but you could try it if you want to see. I recommend lunesta which is what I take.
Do you get full relief from the gabapentin and just can’t sleep? At 1200mg I seem to have some sensation of RLS but no where as bad as without it. I am trying to decide if I want to keep increasing dose. I seem to have to same results as when I was 900mg but still need to use the cannabis to get enough relief to sleep. Part of me says just stay at the dose I am at continue to use to marijuana. I would hate to keep increasing my gabapentin dose and still no be able to get complete relief.
I do use Trazodone for sleep along with my ropinerole. However I also use a small dose of Kratom and various herbal supplements in a tea a couple times during the night.
Hi Tbone87, I'm sorry for the delayed response to you or anyone else at HealthUnlocked that I may not have responded to in the last couple of weeks. It's just been a very busy time for me.I was on Gabapentin about 25 years. I took three 300mg capsules in the evening, along with Ropinerole. Over the years my RLS got worse, so when I started seeing specialists at Mayo Rochester last year, I weaned off both, as I started Lyrica. It was a very rough summer, and though I'm especially glad to be off Ropinerole, the Lyrica isn't helping, at least at night. My daytime symptoms are way better, practically nonexistent, but I wonder if that is due to Lyrica or that I'm no longer having augmentation due to Ropinerole.
Not sure how I'd know for sure other than gradually weaning off Lyrica. I'm usually up every 1-2 hours during the night, walking around, noshing on food for something to do, or like last night, scubbing floors under and behind furniture! My sleep average is 4 hours per night, unless I splurge once a week and take a Ropinerole, in which case I've gotten 6-7 hours. I'm still super-paranoid of augmentation, so I don't take it more often. The only reason I started that about 6 weeks ago was because I was at a motel for a couple nights with my husband and didn't sleep at all the first night. I figured I'd lose my mind or commit hari-kari if I didn't take action with the Ropinerole. It worked, so I did it again last week when I was trapped in a motel room with my husband PLUS two adolescent grandkids!!
