Serum Alpha synuclein levels reduced in RLS patients

This study shows a reduction in serum a syn levels in RLS patients and suggests that it may be the reason for reduced dopamine/faulty dopamine system in RLS patients.

It also mentions that a high percentage are experiencing augmentation.

And still nearly every UK neurologist is dishing out dopamine agonists and trying to convince patients that augmentation is unlikely to happen. It really defies rational belief.

Interesting. The link only gives access to the summary (?). I’ll try to get the full paper later, as I am curious about why they looked at alpha-synuclein and what its usual function is. It would be interesting if it could be used as a biomarker, but as that isn’t mentioned in the summary, I guess not.

Can't see full paper but wondering if these people had PD or not. In this paper they mention REM sleep disorders also having abnormal α-synuclein:
