Possible relief for jumping limbs (PLMD?) while asleep-give fish oil a try

Hi, All! I have't posted in such a long time. I suffered with RLS so much, just like all of you, and have many bad stories. Eventually I landed on taking a small piece of Suboxone each night and even though I had hoped for a natural solution, I have stayed with that plan. I often worry about the long term effects, although at least the dosage is quite small. (Less than 1/2 of a 2 mg tape.)

Out of the blue, I started getting these wild limb movements and body shaking, which would wake me out of a dead sleep. It was super intense! I tried taking more Suboxone to no avail-it can even make things worse for me. I tried different magnesium, adding iron overnight, etc. I even wrote to Dr. B, since I had had an appt. with him, but he didn't want to write an answer without an appt.

I know fish oil affects the brain and I hadn't taken any in many moons. So, I started back on that and the very first night the crazy body and limb jerking stopped. So far it has been 2 weeks, and those movements are gone. HUGE, huge sigh of relief!

Worth a try for some of you! Especially if you don't eat much fish. I am also a vegetarian, sometime pescatarian (but don't have it enough, clearly!).

I do hope this can help someone, as I didn't see anything like this posted. I wish you all sweet sleep, any way you can get it!!

How much fish oil do you take and how often? Also, can you substitute krill oil? Krill oil doesn't have side effect of the fish burps...lol

Hi, there. I ordered Sports Research brand on Amazon. It says: 1250 fish oil, 1040 total omega 3...epa: 690....dha: 260...other omega 3: 90 mg. This in one capsule.

I started with 2 capsules a day, just to get things going after a long time with no fish or fish oil.

I have no idea on the krill but worth a try-I knew the first night that it worked and things had been really, really intense overnight. Bizarre movements. I am assuming plmd or something.

Lol on the burps but I honestly have not had them this time and I always used to with other brands.

Let me know if anything helps you! I think our brains really need this, for many functions!

Yes, everything I've read about fish oil is that it is good for so many things! One more question, please: When you started with 2 capsules a day, did you take them together at one time or at 2 separate times? Also, are they taken with or without food and should I not take them at the same time as certain meds? Also, for how long did you stay at 2 a day, and when you increased the dose, how much did you increase by and what times of day, etc.? Thank you and sorry for all the questions!

No problem. I took them together at first, which worked, then I started taking one twice a day after about a week at various times. I most often had food in my stomach but I don't think it really matters-just getting it going seems to do the trick, with no rules.

I think after you get it going in your system you can experiment a bit-one or two capsules a day for this particular brand. You will have to look up any drug interactions but maybe just take the fish oil separately to be sure. I take a thyroid medication in the morning and Suboxone at night, plus various supplements. I think fish oil is pretty easy to take overall-not like iron and some others that do interfere.
