I finally got my sublingual buprenorhine!

Hi everybody! Thanks to this forum I finally got a neurologist who was willing to prescribe me 0.2mg sublingual buprenorphine tablets.

I've been on 100 tramadol for two weeks and was wondering which would be the wiser way of switching from one to the other and finding the right dose.

I'm a bit worried of the dental effects but I've seen that there is people here who have been on it for years without much trouble...

Anyway, let's see if this finally works!

Thanks!

That's great! So pleased for you.

Could you give me the name of the neurologist and where s/he is located so I can add him/her to my list in case someone else in that area needs the name. There are so few neurologists that will prescribe opioids.

Of course, her name is Nuria Caballol. She works at a public hospital called "Hospital Moises Broggi" in Barcelona. She already had a patient on buprenorphine patches so it wasn't that hard. She is an open minded individual that know most doctors, including herself, are not totally up to date with RLS investigation and was willing to kind of trust my own knowledge. On the other hand, she wasn't ready to prescribe methadone, which I understand, because she feels she doesn't know enough about it, but was willing to accept some links on the subject to investigate.

No problem! Any advice on the way to switch from Tramadol 100 to buprenorphine?

No - There are others that can give you advice better on that than I can.

I switched from one day to the next - no problems.

Great news. Stop tramadol today and start Buprenorphine tomorrow evening about 3 hours before bed.The teeth issues are because Buprenorphine causes very dry mouth, so buy products used by Sjogrens patients. Biotene mouthwash and spray and chew gum.

People using Buprenorphine skin patch report teeth issues as well, so it's clearly not the acid mouth that causes the decay.

If you experience nausea ( common) take cannabis or ask for Zofran.

Hi Joolsg, As you know Doctor Murphy increased my patch to release 10 micrgrams per day and I guess I’m very lucky as I have no side effects apart from periods of perspiring at night and some strange dreams ha ha. Mouth no drier than usual as tend to breathe through my mouth when asleep, no constipation to speak of. No irritation where patch has been. I hope that this may be of some help to those who may be worried about starting the Buprenorphine parch.

Try magnesium at night.

Magnesium at night helps with constipation?

Absolutely. You know if you've taken too much, as you get diarrhoea.I take 2 magnesium citrate pills nightly. If I stop, I get opioid constipation.

There are different strengths. I use 440mg pills. Sometimes 2, sometimes 3 a night.

Hi Jools, In what form do you suggest a person take magnesium, I have become constipated for the first time in my life. I have been on Buprenorphine for 5 months and this is the first hint of this side effect. Perhaps Buprenorphine is not the culprit, but I would like to try the magnesium as I am already eating prunes and psyllium. Thanks so much.

I take magnesium citrate pills 2 or 3 nightly. It helps RLS for many as well.
