Weaning off mirapex

According to many of you, I went off the mirapex too quickly. LotteM suggested I keep taking the Horizant and take a tiny dose of mirapex with it for 2-3 weeks. I'm okay with that since I still have some mirapex. I hate to do this without talking to my dr. But she is on vacation for a week. You have all been so helpful. Should I do this without talking to my dr. When I went on vacation I was off mirapex and my dr. let me take one mirapex before bed. It was a miracle. It worked and I had no rls for a week. Please let me know what you think.

I think you could safely risk it.💚

Hi I am so sorry you having so much distress. I have struggled with it too may years to count. I have had augmentation with every DA. I am going to new Dr. soon. But its the immediate relief of legs when they crop up and are severe. I will share what I do and it does seem to help in the moment. I have to get up and walk. Then I rub CBD cream or oil (I use anroll on) all over my legs lightly . It can be obtained online. Give a good strong deep massage only rubbing down not up slowly the whole leg. Then I put 2 pound weights around my ankles and sit and raise my leg and lower slowly. Then walk around with them on. I do it for a while as tolerated. Then I do some deep stretches how ever you would like to stretch for me its mostly my thighs. Then repeat as much as tolerated. It works for me but of course everyone is different.

I have also increased my Iron tablets to every day 65mg. I followed the advice here of how to take it. I take it on an empty stomach at night with vitamin C. ( however you may want to discuss the iron with your doctor) Apparently it increases the absorption.

The website I have good experience with for the CBD is musclemx.com. I find the roll on works the best . Its called Muscle MX CBD Balm Advanced heated relief Activate 1000mg . i t is about $60 well worth it.

I hope your symptoms subside soon. Again this is just my suggestion of what helps me.

Research has shown that taking iron every other day increases its absorption. And with your very low ferritin you really need to take 2 of the 65 mg of iron.

I did it last night. Couldn't take another night of pacing, crying etc. 9pm I took 1 mirapex (.125). A miracle occurred. RLS went away all night. It was finally great. However I am not supposed to be taking mirapax. I have to talk to my dr about this. Did I do the wrong thing. Will this make matters worse.

I would repeat the advice you have been given.Go back to 2½ pills of Pramipexole and start the reduction process as SueJohnson and Lotte advised.

You WILL not escape a hellish 4 or 5 weeks.

I only know of 2 or 3 people who have avoided hellish withdrawal.

These drugs have brain altering chemicals so stopping them WILL be extremely difficult.

So, follow the advice you have been given, slow down and take the Horizant. It won't reduce the severe RLS OR help withdrawal symptoms. But it will start to work after you have dropped the last Pramipexole.

Ask for a low dose opioid to get through the increased RLS at each dose reduction. And clear your diary for the next 3 to 4 months.

Read all SueJohnson replies to posts.

Good luck.

I only took one pramapexole and it did the trick. No rls all night. I didn't need to take 2 1/2. It was great. Not sure what the dr will say about this...

If your doctor wanted you off the mirapex because he decided you couldn’t go any higher dose and knew it could cause problems probably he knew it would cause augmentation. What he didn’t understand is the weaning process and how slowly it needs to be done. You said you had been on it long time so the withdrawals were going to be tough and the weaning needing to go very slowly

Take the same dose tonight then & then slowly reduce from now. Hopefully your doctor will prescribe Buprenorphine and that will cover withdrawal symptoms.

Thats what I was planning to do Joolsg. You can"t or maybe you could imagine how great it feels to not be walking the floors at night. Thanks for your help...

Most people on this site have been on Dopamine Agonists. Most have suffered augmentation. Most have been through brutal withdrawals, lasting at least 4 weeks.

So we do know what it's like to suffer those awful nights.

I do hope your doctor prescribes Buprenorphine.

It does reduce the barbaric, brutal withdrawals.

I can't clear my diary for 3 to 4 months. Don't even say that. I have a family cruise in July we have been planning forever. I can't ruin everyones vacation.

Up to you. But just letting you know the reality. If you can get Buprenorphine and make the switch now over the next few weeks, you should avoid a brutal withdrawal.

If you're staying in any other countries while on the cruise, search the local laws. Buprenorphine is illegal in many countries, even with a prescription.

If your doctor said they will prescribe the buprenorphine then get it when you speak to your doctor on Tuesday.
