Should magnesium supplements be continued if magnesium levels are within normal range? Is there a specific target magnesium level for patients with RLS?

Many people with RLS and normal magnesium levels find that taking magnesium at night helps their RLS.

With normal kidney function the body will excrete any extra magnesium that the body doesn't need, so hypermagnesemia is rare. It can happen in people who have kidney failure or chronic kidney disease.

I continue to take 200mg of magnesium citrate a day just for maintenance, down from the 400-600mg a day that I took initially. I did stop altogether for a while but found that mild RLS symptoms returned.
