RLS friendly antihypertensive medication

Hi, I would appreciate if our members can suggest any antihypertensive medication which is RLS friendly. Lately for no reason my blood pressure goes up significantly. My blood pressure usually stays very low all my life, I just can think of anything as a contributing factor for my elevated blood pressure but I am not sure which medication would be save and not exacerbate RLS symptoms. I would appreciate in advance if any one can share with me about the safe medication I can take. Thanks a lot.

Some medicines that are safe for high blood pressure are propranolol (Inderal, Hemangeol, InnoPran) a beta blocker that may help RLS, Isosorbide Mononitrate (Monoket, Imdur) which is not a beta blocker nor calcium channel blocker. Other possibilities are: Clonidine (Catapres) an Alpha-2-Agonist used to treat high blood pressure which can actually help RLS and which also treats insomnia, tenex (Guanfacine, Intuniv), prazosin (Minipress) an alpha-adrenergic blocker that is also useful in managing sleep-related problems caused by PTSD and Tadalafil a vasodilator that in one study completely eliminated RLS. Discuss these with your doctor. And then there is reducing salt by 1 teaspoon a day nih.gov/news-events/nih-res....

I have been taking losartan (Cozaar) for two years with no RLS ill-effects, despite suggestions that it causes problems for some. I did have a terrible time on statins while on losartan, but coming off statins and being careful with sugar, caffeine and alcohol and avoiding artificial sweeteners (particularly aspartame) has kept me very largely RLS free for over a year now

Thanks Chris, do you come across having any side effects taking losartan, I am more afraid of insomnia effects from any medication because I am prone to having insomnia so that I have to be careful finding a right medication not only to address to my RLS concerns. Thanks for your reply.

None. I started on 25mg which helped substantially but didn't completely control, then moved to 50mg which does.

I have no trouble at all falling asleep, and while I do often wake around 5 (as now) this is because of bladder and bowel issues following prostate cancer treatment.

Thanks Chris for your reply. Sorry to hear your bladder and bowel issue and hope you can find some remedy to resolve the issue. Have you tried Ultranol total bladder support and cystoprotek or Aloe Vera from Desert Harvest.

I take Lisionopril (an ACE inhibitor) and Amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker) with no adverse effects on RLS which I've eliminated with a diet free of processed food and refined seed oils which historically were the causes of my hypertension as well.

I take Lisinopril, Carvedilol, Hydralazine and Clonidine with no RLS impact. Amlodipine gives me bad Edema (very common side effect).
