I was on here quite a bit after a total knee replacement two years ago. Nothing much seemed to help that wasn't either an opoid or some other harsh drug. I decided to load up on Fenugreek water each day (one quart from simmering 2 Tablesp. seed in one quart of water, cooling, then straining-seeds can be used twice this way) as well as working up to 2 Tablesp. of MSM (sulfur) powder each day in a small glass of water (warning! it's very bitter!) That helped a great deal over the course of the last two years and now I rarely have a problem.

I have recently discovered Homeopathy and there are several suggestions for RLS in the literature. I must confess that I haven't seen the need to try the main one which is Zincum Metallicum, because I had already begun taking what is known as a Constitutional Remedy, which addresses the total self and boosts my system.

The good thing is that the remedies won't hurt you even if taken incorrectly and can be taken while you are on other medications. Just best not to take at the same exact time. I see so many people suffering on here and just wanted to pass that along. Homeopathy is under attack again, and I have to wonder why, when it's harmless and can be immensely powerful. It totally turned around one of my kitties who had a very bad abscessed tooth, but that's a different use.

Homeopathy also suggests Ferrum Met. and Ferrum Phos. for RLS caused by low iron reserves. I hope this is of use to someone. If interested, just look it up - there are many Homeopathic doctors out there on the 'net, freely sharing their information. It's cheap as well. I am currently studying to learn all I can and hope to become certified in four years.

Most people on this site who have tried homeopathic haven't had much success.

As a chronic condition, it takes longer to respond to homeopathy - often with a phase where the condition seems to worsen for a few days, only to improve beyond that. I wonder if people who haven't had success have found that to be roadblock. It isn't a sledgehammer approach like normal pharmaceuticals and takes some time to work, but in cases of other conditions (such as my kitt's abscessed teeth), work it does. But people need to do what they feel will work for them. I just thought it might help someone.

I have trued homeopathy abd it didn't work. But I take your point that it takes time. Can you take drugs alongside the remedies until they work?

Absolutely you can. If going to an experienced homeopath isn't affordable, there is a wealth of free and very helpful information online.

Slightly off topic but about homeopathy. Many years ago I had a dog who as she aged became very restless from about 8 pm onwards. Could not settle, constantly prowling around house and was evidently distressed. Took her to veterinary surgeon, nothing wrong with her she was a perfectly fit animal. After many weeks back to vet and all he could prescribe was a human tranquilizer which I would not give to an otherwise healthy dog. By chance I read in a dog magazine an article on homeopathy which gave quite a long list of remedies for restlessness. These were listed alphabetically and Arsenicum Album,(Ars alb) 30c worked for her. I don't remember any more except a homeopathic remedy derived from caffeine, presumably working on homeopathic values of using a substance that cases symptoms to alleviate problem. Had a hit and miss approach with using homeopathy for dogs, but had quite a lot of success with various remedies and what worked for one did not necessarily work for another. There are even qualified veterinary surgeons who specialise in homeopathy alongside using conventional medicines. Perhaps worth a try as remedies used to be very cheap .

I will be focusing on the veterinary side of it, but a remedy is a remedy is a remedy, whether for man or animal. Vets have become so expensive here in the states that I see a niche to fill for those of us who love our animal friends, but can't afford or don't want to put them through a ton of tests and possibly unnecessary procedures. When surgery is needed for man or beast, that's when to hand over the reins for me and mine. But up to that point, I'll figure it out myself. The coffee remedy was most likely Coffee, made from unroasted coffee beans. You brought up the all -important point of what works for one may not work for another. Basic tenant of Homeopathy is like cures like IF the match is made to that person or animal's behavior and overall type. That's probably the single biggest reason so many try then give up on it.

I agree with you Home I tried it a couple times over for my 30 some years with restless leg syndrome, but I did not know that I should’ve given it a longer time. I really did want quick results so that is something for me to keep in mind and I will do a little more research on that. Thank you.

I do hope you find a remedy that clicks for you! Be sure to look up Constitutional Types on the internet and look at many different sources to get a better idea of what your type might be. Then take that remedy in a dose that you feel might help you. (Maybe start low like 6c, 3-4 times/ day. You can always increase if you get no traction with the lower doses). We've all been treated like we're just another bothersome clod of flesh when nothing could be further from the truth! Our bodies actually want to be well! We just need to learn how we can help them.
