Does anyone find they feel drugged during the day on 10mg slow release oxycontin?I know Jules took it at one time?
The only side effect I get is dropping off to sleep if I sit down during the day such as sleeping through a lecture! I am fine if I keep going but once I sit ....!
My GP did warn me I "might" feel drugged on oxycontin.

Opioids can cause 'wakefulness' & alertness OR sleepiness.I didn't get it with Oxycontin, but I have recently been falling asleep in the day. But I think that's because I'm no longer on my MS drug and so my MS fatigue has ramped up.
It is a common side effect.
Maybe try taking an afternoon coffee to see if it helps ( unless it's a trigger!).
That probably explains why I am so alert when I wake in the night and want to sleep during the day!!At least I am retired so it is not the end of the world if I fall asleep watching TV or during a lecture.
Sorry to hear you are battling with MS. When I was going through chemotherapy 15 years ago the drugs made my rls 10 times worse!!
Hello Joolsg. I have just written you a great long email in reply to your very succinct message regarding the reminder from Health Unlocked about doctors being our first port of call, not our forum members. But my message appears to have got lost in the ether.
Anyway it basically said that I 100% agree with you.
As you know I had 4 whole months of complete relief on 1,500 gabapentin plus 10.mg oxycontin prolonged release taken at 10pm plus very often one glass of wine at 7pm with my evening meal (despite doing longhaul flights & long car journeys I still had no rls).
I told the forum that my legs have started up again (now a few hours after I go to sleep).
Everyone gave such diverse views that I am now completely confused.
When I ring my GP he will ask what the forum think as "they have the experience" (his words previously, not mine) but I can't reel off everyone's views.
Because oxycontin worked I stopped taking iron tablets & magnesium tablets. I wonder if I should first start taking magnesium again to see if that helps.
And if not perhaps I should ask him to increase the oxycontin?
Then if that does not work I could try suggesting switching onto buprenorphine?
So hard to know what to do next and I can't ask him ( when he is so busy with other patients not just me) to wade through Mayo Clinic research.
Joolsg in the night I wrote a message about my oxycontin not working & what should I ask my GP to prescribe now.I am sure you immediately replied with some good advice but I cannot now find your message.
I think it started off suggesting asking. My GP to up .my oxycontin?
My husband would agree with you. I told him I was complaining to you all that since taking 10mg of Oxycontin (plus 1,500 of gabapentin) I did not have rls anymore but I was constantly dropping off to sleep during the day.He said had I forgotten that before Oxycontin my life was complete hell with my rls driving me literally crazy.
He said to me "so what if you fall asleep in the car (as a passenger) and so what if you fall asleep watching Wimbledon or listening to an art lecture and so what if you need a sleep in the afternoons. You should be celebrating that since taking an opioid you have had 3 months of peace from those terrible terrible nerves in your legs that drove you nearly insane".
