Fingers crossed! May 4 - while im fortunate with the ability to schedule an appointment with my PMP, it’s almost always with a nurse practitioner, several are in this practice. They are particularly hesitant to prescribe medication in the dosage that’s truly recommended. So at 3:00a m, I sent a message using my portal to be read directly to the Dr, and was offered an appointment tomorrow afternoon, using almost desperate language. He typically will be more open to prescribing appropriate meds. With a ferritin level of 39, as well as all other iron levels well below “normal”, perhaps he will offer better options than the nurse practitioner, as well as offer me options on medication for insomnia.

Dr appr tomorrow
Ah, I too have been seeing a nurse practitioner after my neurologist retired. The NP was uncomfortable ordering an iron infusion, although the neurologist had done this more than once. My PCP was also uncomfortable ordering an iron infusion. So I was referred to Dr. Winkelman and had a telehealth appointment. He ordered an infusion, but I would have to travel to Boston for that ( five hour drive from Maine). So I started messaging and calling the neurology practice looking for someone who would order an infusion at my local hospital, a twenty minute ride. After a series of calls and messages, the practice manager contacted Dr. Winkelman’s office, then contacted my PCP and told her she should order the infusion for me. That’s happening tomorrow.
My persistence with advocating for what I needed paid off, but it took two plus weeks. I don’t like being the “squeaky wheel” but I like less the RLS that robs me of sleep. It seems more and more my healthcare needs my coordination and vigilance.
