Now in my 70s my big treat of the evening is to have a glass of wine. Please don't tell me that I can't have a drink with RLS????
Alcohol: Now in my 70s my big treat of... - Restless Legs Syn...
Alcohol
Of course you can!!!
But you will suffer.
Even some non alcoholic drinks are not free from guilt. I think there must be some other issues as well as just the alcohol. Colourings and sulphate are two guilty looking critters in the corner.
I know I can drink Erdinger alcoholfrei ok (beer) but have had horrendous nights from some other makes.
Some interesting times ahead for you!!🤪😎
Too much stimulation in the evening - whether that be alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, too much sugar, too big a meal/ too late - can be counter- productive. But then some swear that they benefit from caffeine, and others - including me - find that moderate use of alcohol (e.g a single glass) has no impact on RLS. A sugary pudding is much more likely to set off *my* RLS!
It's an individual thing which you can test yourself. Total abstinence may not be necessary.
Thanks. I’m on pregabalin and they share the same warnings - as I share your longing for a drink/treat, especially with Sunday lunch. (I’m 82). They both say “avoid or limit” unless you look at the rehab sites which are much more frightening! I get dizzy, sleepy and confused even without booze so I think I might dare to experiment. Maybe we should compare notes if we survive. Of course it’s stopping at one glass that’s difficult…
Cheers
Well my Godmother lived to 101 on a LARGE glass of red wine every day.She did not have RLS but she was on meds for blood pressure & scoliosis of the spine.
So cheers to us all!
How much pregabalin are you on and does it control your RLS?
Depends on whether alcohol is a trigger for you. Everyone is different. I have no food or drink triggers. Alcohol doesn't make my RLS worse. And caffeine in coffee actually improves it.So keep a diary and see what works.
The oldest woman in the world just died at 118! She had a glass of wine every day! I would suggest to drink it prior to the evening meal.
