Alcohol

After years of abstaining from alcohol as it triggers my RLS I took a chance yesterday and had 2 glasses of cider .Was a hot day at the seaside and I just fancied an ice cold cider .It was 4.30pm -5.30 pm .Never again! I have spent the last 8 hours pacing with raging RLS and it's still going .Just not worth it for me .

Oh Pipps- I do so understand.

That sharp tangy fizz on the back of the throat, and the apple satisfying taste.

So sorry for your experience.

At least it will pass soon-- and back to sparkling water and apple juice--- but just not the same!💚

Agree totally...very tempting but such a trigger for RLS..What else can we drink apart from water, which I find very boring? Diet colas are unhealthy, normal cola full of caffeine and sugar...sparkling water with ice and lemon??We need a drink that tastes good but isn't water!!

Plenty of non-alcoholic drinks - NA Beer, wine, and also Kombucha. Lots and lots of various teas.

There is a whole world of NA drinks out there, it's a huge thriving industry. Youngsters aren't drinking alcohol like older generations do.

So it's not just NA wine & beer etc, there's lovely mixed flavour crisp sparkling drinks too.

They're even available in cans.

I'm a fan of Elderberry Sparkling drink but in all honesty, if it's not something you're imbibing regularly & u like the taste..the odd Diet Cola isn't going to harm you.

Any reactions to alcohol free beer? Ice cold it's very refreshing.

I have alcohol free G&Ts, though the sugar may trigger some folk.

I sometimes have one glass of wine (with a meal) as long as it’s before 3pm, but it's not something I want to try too often.

Been there. Done that!😩. Because simple carbs (which break down to sugar) also are a trigger for me I’ve had success with alcohol free low carb beer (5 grams per can). High carb beers are a trigger for me even without the alcohol. In the States a good brand is Athletic Lite.

To keep myself sane at times of temptation to throw caution to wind, I think of it as drinking something I'm allergic to in hope the allergy magically went away just because I hvnt triggered it for a few years 😜
