Alcohol
Beady its not advisable to drink alcohol when taking tramadol. Also alcohol can make RLS worse.
Thanks Elise I will take your advise ,I am used to it now
You will get away with a tiny drink- 1/3rd glass of wine or half glass of beer- depending on your normal processing of alcohol.
Basically alcohol potentiates the opiate - increases its effect- so you may experience withdrawal effects a few hours after taking the drink.
I suffered horribly for two days after drinking a litre of really scrumptious Cidre.
Still trying to figure out if it was worth it! 😈👿💀
Oh well!!!😎
Thanks madlegs as you see I haven't had a drink for 2 yrs so no more not worth it
I agree with Madlegs1, you can drink but the two accent each other so like any other drug start low and work your way up with alcohol.
I find it either drives my legs mad or it stops me sleeping so I don't drink much, maybe once or twice a year so my tolerance is lowered but I can drink three pints fine with my opiates which may be as much as 100mg of Tramadol and 40/20 of Targinact.
I fortunately do not like alcohol so never have that problem at least.
Hi beady I take 1 Tramadol a day and I have the occasional drink and seem fine ,but as you know we are all different
I have been on Tramadol for more than a year due to a ruptured sshoulder tendon, quickly followed by a broken ankle. I found that the Tramadol also helped my restless leg, so I talked to the doctor at the sleep clinic about it. I drink a glass of wine with dinner every night and always have. She saw no reason to give up the wine, so I am now on the 2 mg patch, Tramadol and red wine. Perhaps the fact that I live in France makes a difference to the attitude towards wine. I know everyone is different but that is what works for me. I don't drink when I am out in the evening as I am usually driving and haven't noticed any difference to my restless legs.
Good luck with finding what works for you.
Thank you all for replys, I am going to stay the same and give it a miss ,so cheers bottoms up x
Guilty, Beady! I love a glass of wine or a beer and can tolerate rose but not red wine or a small French beer or lager but not proper bitters. Thoroughly tested!
Excellent article here on alcohol and sleep - one drink probably not a big deal - have it early. nature.com/scitable/blog/mi...
Hi Beady,
I hadn't drunk any alcohol for a year but about 3 weeks ago, sitting out on a lovely summer evening, I succumbed to the temptation to have a small glass of red wine. Oh, it tasted divine BUT, that night my legs kicked off big time and kept me awake from 1-6am. A useful experiment before my holiday to Italy in a few weeks. Clearly my RLS doesn't allow any alcohol. When on dopamine agonists, I could drink anything but sadly, those days are gone.
Sorry, can't help. I do take tramadol but like you I haven't had alcohol for two to three years.
My main condition is ME and I can't drink alcohol because it just makes my ME so much worse, so I haven't had alcohol anyway since before I started taking tramadol.
Gentle hugs, Margaret. xxx
I take Tramadol 100mg and sometimes have a weak G&T with my evening meal. I may have a couple on a weekend and on the odd occasion I have had more. I have never had any noticeable side effects from this. But we are all different. If you are a white wine drinker you could turn it into a spritzer with soda and see how you get on or If you are like me and like gin make it with more tonic than usual . The less you drink the less you want to drink. I gave it up altogether during both pregnancies I can't say I missed it much.
macewan13 have you got that shoulder fixed? I'm 2 weeks post op on having torn tendon repaired. Difficult living alone and having arm in sling 6 weeks. Also struggling with nerve pain in feet.😞
Hello hills56,
Yes, it's ok now, thank you, (it was 2 tendons) - 1 year later. It was very difficult during the sling period, as I'm sure you have found out but my husband had just retired, so he could do the cooking etc.
I don't know where you live but here, in France, I had 50 sessions of physiotherapy, which really helped. It still aches a bit, especially when I have been doing heavy gardening but, I have more or less got full movement back.
Good luck with your recovery. It's a long haul but gets easier every week.
Actually, I am a recovering alcoholic. I think I have mentioned this fact on a previous post. I also believe that I may have advised that I'd been sober for 20+ years ... wrong. I can understand why I was mistaken. I have always said that after 15-20 years, it's not worth counting. Well, I've decided that it is, especially when one gets it so wrong.
It have actually been for 30 years, 8 months, and 3 weeks.
And yes (for me) the alcohol made it way worse. I just thank God that I stopped when I did. It's a living nightmare. Everything would be 10 times worse if I were to still be drinking. Actually ... I seriously doubt that I would still be here.
