Ive had two good nights with the help of tramadol to stop the augumantation but last night i had two beers as its friday with a meal, and had a terrible night, are other people affected like this with alcohol?

Also another question how many tramodol to people take, as whilst helping me at the moment i dont want to get addicted to these either, at the moment i have one in day and one at night?

Hi Blues

I took 50mg of Tramadol for 2 years until it stopped working. Occasionally I would take a second. When I was withdrawing from ropinirole I saved it until the evening. Daytime RLS was easier to manage as I wasn’t trying to sleep. Had no problem stopping.

I rarely drink these days because of my RLS but find I can get away with the odd glass or two providing it’s not too late. Chinese takeaway upsets me more - must be the salt and all the other additives! Shame - I miss my salt and pepper tofu!

The salty tase is probably MSG, rather than salt. If you cooked the same dish at home without adding MSG, I bet you'd be ok with Chinese food.

Our local Chinese restaurant assures us that they do not use MSG - but I still am seriously affected when I eat there. I have decided to skip Chinese and go for the better night sleep.

They may be using bonito flakes, which are the source of glutamate that inspired the synthesis of MSG.

Interesting. Thanks! (Whatever they are using, they have lost my business. )

Hello Blues60!

Alcohol and RLS don’t mesh for me! I’m unable to drink anymore. It’s not worth it for me...

Alcohol, caffeine, sugar all make my RLS worse.

Hello Blue.

First, Tramadol can cause augmentation, so keep a careful eye on that.

Second, opinions on alcohol are mixed. An expert who gave a webinar for the RLS Foundation recently said 'some alcohol' is good. That would mean that a little alcohol might be better than no alcohol. Try one small whisky and see what happens.....

As long as I keep off sugar and sweetened foods, I can have a couple of beers now and then, but I don't drink regularly. By sticking to my diet, I have eliminated my rls. I don't take any meds.

Alcohol is one of the worst things you can take

I don’t have a problem with alcohol activating my symptoms, but I can’t drink ber anymore - symptoms are activated almost immediately. I think it’s the hops.

I've always taken tramadol for pain. when I have rsl to the point where nothing else is working ( exercise, hot baths. staying off caffeine and sugar after 12 noon.) I take half a 50mm tablet. this eases my rsl but then I don't get a real good deep sleep. but I don't have to move my legs either. and I don't know if all these years if tramadol hasn't made my rsl worse.
