What are people’s experiences with drinking beer, wine and taking roprinole??

Once after having a few beers I took my roprinole before going to bed and experienced terrible RLS in my legs. To be truthful it was more than a few.

Alcohol is a major trigger for rls with most people. No relation to medication, although many medicines will not tolerate alcohol. As far as I know it is the sulphites in beer that do the damage, but I have had some ciders that haven't affected me ( Aspells) so maybe some stuff is more natural than others . There are colourings that must come into play as well.

I also have found that spirits-(the wet ones) can be extremely bad for the rls.

Now that I'm on opiates, I cannot tolerate any alcohol at all- which is a major disappointment.

But there are some tolerable nonalcoholic beers coming on stream.

One good thing about drinkdriving campaign 🤩

Cheers.

It's not the sulphite, but the carbs that cause rls.

I doubt that. I tolerate some wines, while others are a major trigger.

Many have experiences like Madlegs; alcohol sets off their rls. However, we are all different, and I can drink without ill effects. Although I do not drink often and mostly only one, rarely two glasses. Being on medication - I have had and still sometimes rotate between- ropinirole, gabapentin, tramadol and oxycodon made no difference either. But I mostly drink at home; no driving with this combi of ‘heavy’ meds and alcohol.

Thus, if you want, try a small glass and see. You’ll learn quickly what applies to you.

Firs you need to abstain and cut down on carbs for a month or more in order to notice the difference that one glass will make.

I have and it still didn’t.

I have consumed alcohol with ropinirole and it had no impact (ropinirole did not work for me). I do not believe alcohol triggers my RLS/PLMS but it does, of course, have a negative effect on sleep and so I try to avoid it in the evening (which is tough as I love a couple of glasses of wine with dinner). So it may have been the amount you had overriding the effects of the ropinirole, rather than an interaction with the ropiniriole as such. But we are all different and all metabolise drugs (and alcohol) to different extents.

I cannot drink alcohol anymore. At first I noticed it with rye whiskey specifically. To me it seems like the problem is related to sugars.

Terrible! (espec Red Wine) for the RLS (Not even considering the drug/alcohol effect). Had to give up completely ALL forms of alcohol (plus caffeine) many hours before bedtime. If you don't take these (and some other) simple first actions to improve your sleep, then you will make your chance of success very difficult.

This RLS is dumb founding. Rfcplms can't have caffeine but on another post I read where that person drank coffee when they were awakened in the night.

Alcohol makes my RLS symptoms intolerable. Wine, Scotch, whatever. I think I've figured it out for me: I might try alcohol in the evening - and I was taking my RLS meds late evening. I think my liver gets occupied with metabolizing the alcohol instead of my RLS drugs. Make sense?
