Some of us were taking nicotinamide riboside for RLS. A few days ago a paper was published with data suggesting it could be involved neoplastic and metastatic processes. Hence, please take this in consideration if you were taking nicotinamide riboside.
Here is the reference:
A bioluminescent-based probe for in vivo non-invasive monitoring of nicotinamide riboside uptake reveals a link between metastasis and NAD+ metabolism":
I also took nicotinamide riboside, luckily just for a few days.
Nicotinamide riboside is a metabolite of vitamin B3.
i have to say that before reading about nicotinamide riboside, I was taking irregularly niacin, or vit B3, so after buying it online, I paid attention and noticed that niacin was also helping on days I experienced impatience in the legs.
I think it is safe to take niacin at regular dose, since it is a well known vitamin but please do not hesitate to ask your GP's opinion.

Just a few points. To start with, I agree with you that journalists reporting the paper have used an incendiary title for condemnable reasons, even expanding conclusions in a mice model to all living being by omitting to mention the mice. The title of the scientific is not that way at all. So there is no point to go into a ultra-technical discussion for not much: A link in an experimental test.
But you know, journalists will always be journalists.
However, I didn't think Dr
1. First of all, personally I cannot consider this video as a reliable source as the charachter has a very significant conflict of interest. At the end of the video he invites the audience to visit a website where several different products related to NAD+ are being sold.
2. I don't have the privilege of being followed by anybody, so I might not be as credible as he is but frankly, niacin, nicotinamide and nicotinamide riboside are 2.5 different molecules. So providing as proof of safety for NR studies done on vit B3 or nicotinamide is just proving something is not right.
You can read on the 3 different molecules on any website of your liking giving that information.
3. If they are biologically interchangeable, why do we need to pay premium price for NR or NMN?
Anyway, my purpose is only for people to stay safe, the information is out there, they can se it, talk to their GP and make thir own decision.
yes sure agree… but the main point is it’s not proven yet in humans that it’s not beneficial. I don’t have those answers either. I just think it’s best to not imply anything unless there is human science to back it, which there isn’t. Studies can be difficult based on what is being studied. More research is needed obviously and sadly, most GP have no idea what NR is.
I think people safety in taking substance comes first, on the top of even confirmed benefits so it is more important to let people know there is a question mark.
What's the point to have a young body, but your life longevity cut by an agressive cancer? That's not the agenda of longevity research.
1. We found that NR supplementation alleviated malignancy-induced weight loss and metastasis to lung in nude mice in both subcutaneous xenograft and hematogenous metastasis models.
2. NR supplementation decreased metastasis to the bone and liver in the hematogenous metastasis model.
3. NR supplementation also significantly decreased the size of allografted tumors and extended the survival time in C57BL/6J mice.
4. In vitro experiments showed that NR intervention inhibited the migration and invasion of HepG2 cells triggered by TGF-β.
In summary, our results supply evidence that boosting NAD levels by supplementing NR alleviates HCC progression and metastasis, which may serve as an effective treatment for the suppression of HCC progression.
