RLS or something else?

Hi,

I started vaping to replace a tobacco habit and got carried away with the vaping taking in far too much. Started off a light tingle in the arms initially for a few weeks but then spread to the legs where it is focused most. It happens when i am about to fall into a deep sleep. I can lie in bed for hours but as soon as I am very close to sleep wham it kicks in. I can resist but the muscle tension tightening of limb stays and sometimes moves around.

Now suffering chronic insomina sometimes getting no sleep, or at best 3-4 hours. I used to be a great sleeper sometimes sleeping 8-9 hours.

Interesting, i also took a supplement to increase dopamine shortly before all of this in conjunction with the vaping to improve performance in gym etc

Anyone any have thoughts/comments? Could a dopamine supplement kick start RLS ?

Kindest Regards

All of the following must be true for a diagnosis of RLS: 1) The urge to move the legs and sometimes the arms 2) The onset or worsening of symptoms during periods of inactivity when lying down and sometimes when sitting 3) Symptoms occur or worsen in the evening or bedtime. They are usually dormant in the morning 4) Symptoms get better when walking or stretching as long as it is continued. 5) Can't be explained by another medical or behavioral condition. Do you fit these criteria? No a dopamine supplement would not kick start RLS.

Vapeing nicotine to excess can trigger RLS. And what dopamine supplement did you use? There have been reports of problems with e.g. ginseng and gingko

I agree with ChrisColumbus - nicotine is a definite trigger RLS for most people. ( I missed that it was nicotine - was thinking it was marijuana), For insomnia I would suggest ativan or ambien.

Thanks everyone I will reduce and cut down the Nicotine hopefully it goes away ...

Moderate amounts of nicotine, caffeine and alcohol reportedly help ameliorate RLS symptoms in some; others have to cut out some or all of these entirely. Some people, including me, can't take statins, more than small amounts of sugar, or artificial sweeteners particularly Aspartame; others don't notice any problems with these.
