Neurotransmitter testing for rls

Here is an article that discusses neurotransmitter testing to see what supplements you can take to fix the imbalance the author specifically says he did this for himself bc he wanted to get rid of his restless leg

We did not do the test but just skipped straight to the supplement part to support the neurotransmitters associated with restless leg (Eg low dopamine and low GABA). And we haven’t seen rls in my son since we started this

Hoping this can help someone

This article mentions so many different supplements. Which ones did you actually find effective?

You’ve piqued my interest as well.

L theanine, b complex, vit e, magnesium, valerian root, zinc,

And gluten and dairy free

Any site trying to sell you stuff is suspect.

There is plenty of good advice on this site (Health Unlocked) that won't cost a penny/cent/ rial/ pfennig or whatever.

But- then that might mean having to actually figure things out.

It's much easier to buy a load of bullsh¥t and pills.

Bad Madlegs; be more polite!

But continue to be as sceptical and funny ...

Excuse me- I thought I was being very restrained.. I abhore "bad science"

But thank you for your concern- I just might be a bit grumpy these days.

Oh but ... all those posts about soap in the bed ... surely you don’t mean to say you don’t endorse it?

I hope grumpiness is temporary and surmountable but have to say I love my regular dose of madlegs’ caustic curmudgeon.

Take care of yourself.

Just have to step in here and say....

well, that’s it. Just wanted to say hi to you and Madlegs!

Not sure I understand your response. Seems like you’re not a fan of my post. My son is stable and he does not have restless leg symptoms anymore bc I did a ton of research and figured this out and wanted to share with others to help them. I am guessing that you’re restless leg is not under control because you sound very cranky like you have not had sleep in a while.

This sounds terrific and its great that it worked for your son. It sounds like a bit of science being applied to analyse the problem and then apply a remedy

Of course everyone with RLS or any other neglected disease has to be suspicious of anyone wanting money for a "fix" (probably no cures available )

I will read the article

The author could do himself a favour with a name change so it didn't shriek "snake oil" at you LOL

I think we all appreciate anyone trying to help but sounds to me like this guy is all over the map with his miracle cure. Glad if something helps anyone but there is no science I can decern here just his use of medical jargon. I trained as a researcher and have read thousands of articles and medical journals, and I would be very careful of this guy. These are words strung together to sound like he saying something but it's junk- not science. He seems a typical narcissistic with his advertising a hard sell and that bit ..'to get an "unfair advantage.." is offensive, appealing to other narcissists and beyond unprofessional. Folks, please be careful with all non FDA tested anything- maybe it helps, maybe it won't hurt, but maybe it will.

What I've been doing for the last two weeks is helping so much, I'm hoping saying it on here it does not start up again tonight, my regime is one iron tablet, one calcium tablet, two cod liver oil capsules after breakfast, around 2pm one magnesium citrate 200mg, 5pm one magnesium citrate 200mg, 8pm one magnesium citrate 200mg 2 calcuum tablets I'm not saying it will work for everyone, I've been chopping and changing my vitamins for many months before I found a combination that is working for me ATM, I am doing everything I can not to go back on to the prescription treatments again, they are evil.

Thank you, welshone, it is always good to hear about regimes that work. Especially those without presciption meds. No-one wants these, I assume, but many need them, including me unfortunately.

Long may your regime last!!

Thanks for the link. All the links to "Calm" in the article are broken, but I think this is the product he refers to. Most of the advice is indeed food choices. Most top-level researchers would agree that the RLS insomnia is indeed an imbalance favoring Glutamate (excitatory) over GABA (relaxing). I've tried most of the supplements he recommends - but I can try reducing calcium and some of the other suggestions to reduce Glutamate and increase GABA. Calm link... systemicformulas.com/produc...

I’m so pleased your little man is getting some relief. I stongly suspect dairy is the main culprit for him. The supplements will also help, especially vit B complex and zinc.

I really hope the new regime keeps him RLS free for years and years.

I take b complex, vitamin e, magnesium, valerian root, zinc balanced with copper. 0 difference. I added L theanine a couple of years ago and for 90 days I had no RLS, then it returned and the L-theanine was no longer effective.

I am naturally GF as humanly possible because I have Celiac disease. I am a vegan, so no dairy at all.

We are all different, hope the protocol works for your son.

Hi BoldMove,

I’m inferring from your answer that dairy free is not a solution for your legs? Do you take any prescription drugs? How are your legs these days?

It’s very interesting to hear from someone who thinks outside the box. Thanks

I took Mirapex for a while. It augmented very quickly - 6 days. . I'm not planning on ever trying new drugs again. I don't like the potential side effects.

In the scheme of things 90 days of total relief from L-Theanine isn't much, but better than 0.

When attacks occur, walking during the night for at least 15 or 20 minutes is no better than walking around and standing doing light, mindless chores. I use firelight bulbs in the middle of the night. I usually am able to sleep a couple of hours at a time. And walk again when necessary.
