I am wondering if I have restless legs or something else. I have the restless movements all day. I get relief once I settle down in my bed at night. The movements are worse on the right side. Any thoughts on this? Can stress cause these types of movements? I was diagnosed with ADHD in my forties. I have wondered if it is related to that.

Hi yecam, I would personally have said that the daytime movements are due to the hyperactivity from your adhd mainly because although rls can and does strike during daytime hours it is mainly when you are trying to rest/relax/sleep that it hits you worst. I'm only going by my personal opinion I'm not a doctor lol. Hope this helps a little although I'm not sure how xx
Thank you for your reply. Whatever is going on makes it impossible for me to sit anywhere without the movements. I get relief if I am completely stretched out and flat. I am beginning to think it might be nerve irritation from some bulging discs I have. I am in the middle of long distance move so will see a neurologist once I get settled.
It doesn't sound like RLS. All of the following must be true for a diagnosis of RLS: 1) The urge to move the legs and sometimes the arms 2) The onset or worsening of symptoms during periods of inactivity when lying down and sometimes when sitting 3) Symptoms occur or worsen in the evening or bedtime. They are usually dormant in the morning 4) Symptoms get better when walking or stretching as long as it is continued. 5) Can't be explained by another medical or behavioral condition. Check out Table 2. Differential Diagnosis at chiro.org/Graphics_Box_ALT-... for other possibilities and then see a doctor.
I agree with the others. I would say it's not RLS. RLS is worse when resting and at night. You get relief when resting and at night. It could be a side effect of meds that you're taking so discuss with your doctor.
Im with the others here. I have RLS and have had it for over 30 years. I have the RLS whenever I sit down or try to go to bed. Once I am off my feet the symptoms start and its not only in my legs but in my arms and at times in my torso. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I would say you do not have RLS
Hello Yecam. Are you on any medication for ADHD? My son was diagnosed with this as a child. He was given Ritalin and Risperidone. If I had been as knowledgeable then I would not have allowed these drugs - one of them can cause movement disorder, I think Risperidone from memory. He was lucky and seems to have got away with it. He is now in his forties.Your symptoms do not appear to be typical RLS symptoms.
Thank you for your comments. No I do not take meds for adhd. I was diagnosed in my forties and took meds for a short time but just didn't feel good about it. I had learned to manage it by the time I was diagnosed. I did take ssri's for years so wonder at times if it is akathesia. I plan to start with a neurologists once I get through the transition period of a long distance move.
I do hope you get to the bottom of this very soon. I do not where you are moving to or indeed where you live, but getting an appointment with a neurologist is no easy task in UK these days. I wish you well.
