Buprenorphine nausea and vomiting

Hi, I was prescribed 2mg buprenorphine sublingual. It works! However, I’m thinking about going back to Kratom, which only somewhat works.

Even taking a quarter of one pill, I wake up around 3am and vomit, and am nauseous for hours.

Any advice?

Safe anti-nausea medicines for RLS are, Kytril (Sustol, Granisetron, Sancuso), Anzemet (Dolasetron) and Zofran (ondansetron). I took Zofran while taking Oxycodone while recovering from surgery and it worked well.

I am sorry to hear this. Look for posts by joolsg, she successfully combated her nausea with medical cannabis, thus including thc. If you are in the UK, you may be able to apply for it through project21.

I hope it settles.

I can also stand kratom better than buprenorphine, but the good part of the latter is that it lasts so much longer.

I had extreme nausea & vomiting for 10 days but as it really was the last chance saloon for me, I stuck it out. After 7 days I remembered that chemo patients use cannabis to stop nausea and I had a bottle of medical cannabis oil ( sativa with 20%THC). I took it for 6 nights and it stopped the nausea. Most doctors say the nausea will settle after 7 -10 days if you can stick it out.

If you can get Zofran, that also helps but here in the UK it's only available from hospitals.

2mg is a high starting dose. Many can manage on much lower doses. I take 0.4mg at night. Some find they need higher doses so they increase by 0.2mg every other day. You may find you have less nausea on a lower dose.

Thank you, I actually started with half a pill, per doctor, so 1mg. I cut that down by half and still have the nausea. I’ll look into the cannabis oil.

It has to be with THC as that is what stops the nausea. So not CBD oil.Hope it settles. Buprenorphine has been miraculous for me.

Ok, it’s legal where I am, so I shouldn’t have a hard time getting it.

I am debating about moving from Kratom to Buprenorphine. When I read posts like yours, I think...WHY?! Deep sigh. Kratom works for me, and quickly, although I have to awaken to take more to get through a night.

I'll be interested to see what you do in the future and what others reply here. Thanks!

Hi, it took me so long to get an opioid script. I don’t really know the difference between types. For a long time, I’ve known that the pain meds after surgery we’re stopping my RLS. I think it was hydrocodone?

For I think the first time ever, I’m putting another illness ahead of the RLS. I get these awful involuntary movements. Possible cervical dystonia. My neck stays like it’s in a Charlie horse. Well, of all things, my Adderall controls those movements!

The practice I go to won’t prescribe it if another controlled substance is also prescribed. So, as per my usual, I have to decide between them.

Since K mostly controls the RLS, I decided that access to Adderall is more beneficial right now. I will hold on to what I have for the dark nights that are sure to come. I usually have 1-2 sleepless weeks per year where I’ve become suicidal over lack of sleep. I do feel like I have more tools to deal with it now.

I understand and I am so sorry for all that you are going through! I have had 2 doctors stop prescribing methadone and I now have only 2 pills left. A forum poster told me about Kratom and I was forced to try it when I could not find anyone to prescribe more methadone. I have appts all over the US but none of them are in time for this situation.

Just recently, one doctor finally said she would prescribe Bupenephrine. plus my sister sent me some old Bup pills that I could start on my own.

As I said, when I read about the nausea and other issues with Bup, I wonder why I would ever make that switch, now that I have tried Kratom. Although it is gross, at least you can GET it, and no huge side effects, that I can see.

For your future, just know that 5-10 mgs of methadone will most likely work for you. But, it does have some serious side effects. Although not nausea, which sounds dreadful.

The other bad part of the whole opioid wheel is that you will withdraw if your doctor pulls the plug on you or you somehow don't get it. And boy is that a night from hell. I thought of suicide the one night I went through that, as well. At least you would have your Kratom, which I did not have and had never heard of at that time.

Also-when on opioids, you get the worst RLS ever when withdrawing. So you cannot tell what your baseline RLS actually is or what natural methods would work. At least that is my experience.

I would so love to get to a point where I can see what my RLS is on its own, after getting off of DA drugs last August. The methadone clouds that for me as you get RLS all over your body as soon as you try to taper off.

This whole thing has been a nightmare, actually, and I often wonder if I should have just stayed on the DA's (Ropinirole and Pramipexole). Sigh.

Best of luck to you!
