buprenorphine

I have now been taking buprenorphine sublingual for 3 nights. I am struggling to know when the tablets are dissolved and how the absorption works. I am concerned I am swallowing before they have been absorbed properly. How do I know! I have been trying to leave the tablets under my tongue for up to fifteen minutes. Thanks for your help.

It can be difficult at first. Some brands dissolve faster than others. I've had Accord, Sandoz & Morningside.Sandoz seem to dissolve as soon as I place them under my tongue. Accord take longer, about a minute. If you place them under your tongue & just leave them there, they will dissolve and even though you swallow, they should have been absorbed.

What dose are you taking, and, have they stopped the RLS?

Thanks for responding so quickly. I am taking 0.4 mg . The brand is Tephine. It has stopped the RLS for most of the night until about 5.30am.

I haven't come across that brand yet.Try splitting the dose. Take 0.2mg an hour and a half before bed and 0.2mg just as you fall asleep. If that doesn't cover you til at least 9am, you may need to increase the dose to 0.6mg or higher. The average dose is around 1 -1.5mg, but some people need the max dose of 6mg.

Thanks, I will try that tomorrow and see if it works.

Hi Joolsg - Tephine is the Sandoz brand which is the only one I can obtain at present. I am still hoping to be able to get the Accord which you find best.

Dear Happykaz, I’m sure the sublingual tablets are better for most people but you could also consider buprenorphine patches (Butec) which are meant to be changed weekly but most people, including me find they only last 5 days . It is potentially an easier alternative but not for everyone by any means ….All the best to you🤗

Thank you. I’ll keep that in mind if the sublingual tablets don’t work out!

I have a done a lot of posts on this Do Not take the whole sublingual at once break it into pin head size and pop 1 or 2 crumbs under your tongue when absorbed if not getting desired effect replay , you will soon get the hang of it.

This way

absorption is quick

no residual

Can adjust dose more accurately

Protect your teeth.

Thank you for this advice. I’ll do this tonight.

What I do is rub my tongue gently over the 1 mg tablet after a couple of minutes. I can then feel the powdery residue and know that all is well.

Hi Happykaz - When you feel the pill melting you will probably find a little grittiness. When that feeling goes I then take a good drink of water and swallow and then another drink of water. One 200 mcg tablet takes under five minutes and I usually give the two 200 mcg tablets at bedtime about 8 - 10 minutes. Hope this helps
